The American Legion’s long-standing relationship with Diamond Sports is moving beyond baseball merchandise. For the next three years, Diamond will be the official scholarship sponsor of The American Legion Baseball All-Academic Team.

Diamond Sports Co., Inc., is a leading manufacturer in baseball, softball and football merchandise, and is the official baseball used during Legion national tournaments. The agreement between the two organizations involves Diamond providing $25,000 in scholarship funds for the nine-player All-Academic Team, beginning with the 2012 season.

Msgr. Edward Lucitt (photo) was born in South Amboy, N.J., and ordained a priest of the Diocese of Trenton on May 21, 1936, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Trenton. His first assignment was as assistant pastor of St. Mary Church in Gloucester City, then part of the Trenton Diocese.

For the past two years, America has witnessed headline after headline reporting on flaws in President Barack Obama’s health care law. And as America learns more about this intolerable act, the opposition to Obamacare continues to grow. Yesterday, a new poll conducted by The New York Times and CBS News showed that more than two-thirds of Americans want to see the Supreme Court strike down Obamacare in whole or in part, and only 24 percent would keep the law in place.

Within one year of being elected, Governor Scott Walker (R) reformed the state’s public sector pension system, eliminated a $3.6 billion budget deficit without raising taxes, saved taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars, and helped create the conditions that have allowed Wisconsin’s economy to grow again. Meanwhile, thanks to the dysfunction in Washington, America continues to suffer high unemployment, out-of-control spending, and faces a historic tax hike that could send the country over a fiscal cliff.

Last week, Americans received more bad news on the country’s economic performance. According to the latest Department of Labor jobs report, the U.S. economy created only 69,000 net jobs in May, and the unemployment rate increased to 8.2 percent. To add insult to injury, it was also reported that employers created 49,000 fewer jobs than originally estimated in March and April. Put it all together, and we see that the U.S. economy is approaching stall speed.

If Washington doesn’t act, things could get much worse, not better. That’s because of a massive $494 billion tax increase set to hit on January 1, 2013. Known as \”Taxmageddon,\” the tax hike will be the result of the expiration of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, the termination of other tax policies, and the imposition of new taxes, such as those under Obamacare. Economists say that Taxmageddon will spell further doom for the U.S. economy, and this week, even former President Bill Clinton agreed that Washington should temporarily extend the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has said the House will vote on extending the tax policies before the November election, but President Barack Obama and Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) have so far ignored the pending crisis. Meanwhile, the economy is in limbo, waiting for Taxmageddon to strike.

On June 6, 2012. Age 74. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Margaret S. Dubler (nee Behl), and three children, Monica Coffey (Dubler) and her husband James Coffey, Leo and his wife Janice, and Andrew and his wife Jennifer. Leo was blessed with nine grandchildren: Katherine, Joshua, Allison, Ava, Claire, Luke, Sam, Elizabeth and Annika.

Leo – the only son of Leo Bernard and Katherine Theresa Dubler (nee Mannion) graduated from Gloucester Catholic High School in 1956. After a brief stint in the seminary (luckily for his 3 children and 9 grandchildren Leo did not fully heed the call of the vocation) he departed to continue his education. After attending Villanova for 1 year – Leo transferred to St. John\’s University in New York where his favorite uncle (Fr. Edward Mannion) was the Athletic Director. After graduating with a degree in mathematics – Leo worked at General Accident Insurance Company in the actuarial department. After a year or so investigating this career path – Leo had a career change and after graduating from Rutger\’s University Law School, embarked upon a 40 year career as an attorney in Gloucester County N.J. Leo enjoyed his career and did many pro bono hours for family members, friends and those in need without resources.

Leo loved spending weekends in Ocean City with his family – travel – deep sea fishing,chess, pinochle, bridge and cross word puzzles. He had a deep passion for reading with a bent towards historical non-fiction. Leo\’s interest in history was driven by having survived living at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. He often reminisced about the fear that permeated the island in the days following the attack and the vulnerability of the people living there. He also was quick to point out the precision of the Japanese Zero pilots and how the vast majority of their targets were purely military assets with minimal civilian involvement.

His family takes great comfort in knowing that Leo was a deeply religious man that embraced his faith and welcomed the next chapter of his life and the all of its glories.

He will always be deeply missed by his loving family but also reassured that his spirit lives on in his children and grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Sunday evening from 5 to 7 PM at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth St., Gloucester City. On Monday morning there will be a visitation from 11 AM to 12 Noon at St. Mary’s R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth St., Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon.

Alaine was a retired Home Health Aide and was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Gloucester City.

Funeral service will begin at 11 AM in the church. Interment will be private in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
