The Trentonian – SOFTBALL: Robbinsville, Lawrence among teams gunning for state title

  • New Egypt (26-2) vs. Gloucester City (17-7) at Rancocas Valley in Group I: New Egypt is actually a two-time defending state champion and plays with the confidence one would expect from one of the most consistent programs in the area.
  • The Warriors don’t have as much firepower as in years past, but they still play plenty of defense and have a dynamite pitcher in Alison Martino. A senior righty, Martino leads the area in strikeouts with 247. Among the more productive New Egypt hitters is Jamie Soles.
  • Martino will be tested by a hard-hitting Gloucester team that put 15 runs on the board in the S.J. final. City will also be looking for revenge after getting gassed by Emily Bausher, 10-0, last year.
  • Katie Boulden has had success in the circle for Gloucester, but New Egypt appears to have the pitching edge. In this sport, that’s huge.
