The Red Hawks posted a 5-1 win over the Lions on Saturday ending TCNJ’s 24-game winning streak dating back to last season.

Montclair broke through for the game’s initial goal in the final minute of the opening half with Frances Schaefer (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Holy Spirit) knocking in a pass from Jennifer Tafro (Little Falls, NJ/Passiac Valley) with 28 seconds left in the first half. The started when Montclair State inserted the ball on a penalty corner.

The Red Hawks used that momentum early in the second half scoring three times in the first 11:52 with Schaefer starting things by pushing in a centering pass from Maura Johnston (Montville, NJ/Montville). That goal came 2:56 into the half and just over five minutes later Kate Norgard (Columbia, NJ/North Warren) scored on a deflection in front and then made it 4-0 banging in a rebound.

The Lions broke through for a goal when sophomore Erin Waller (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) laced a shot from just inside the arc after taking a pass from Camille Passucci (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) on a penalty corner.

Schaefer completed the hat trick on a 2-on-0 with 3:06 left in the game to round out the scoring.
