Newswise — Indoor tanning beds can cause non-melanoma skin cancer – and the risk is greater the earlier one starts tanning, according to a new analysis led by UCSF.
Indoor tanning is already an established risk factor for malignant melanoma, the less common but deadliest form of skin cancer. Now, the new study confirms that indoor tanning significantly increases the risk of non-melanoma skin cancers, the most common human skin cancers.

Former Gloucester Catholic baseball coach Al Radano died on Monday from complications from several ailments according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Radano\’s teams won five state titles in his 16 seasons as the head baseball coach.
Al\’s wife Bernadette passed away a year ago.
Radano, 70, was a 1960 Gloucester Catholic graduate who was a standout pitcher for the Rams as well as the Brooklawn American Legion team.
Radano was Gloucester Catholic\’s coach from 1976 to 1980 and 1983-93. His teams went 351-101 and won state titles in 1980, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1993.
His 1980 squad went 24-0 and is regarded by many observers as the best baseball team in South Jersey history.
From the Inquirer article, \”Al was the only coach to win 300 games and state championships and stay a nice guy to everybody in the process,\” said Rutgers-Camden coach Dennis Barth, who played on Radano\’s 1980 team and succeeded him as Gloucester Catholic coach in 1994. \”He made sure he played everybody in important games.\”

Mrs. Maryann Callahan, (nee McCann) of Gloucester City, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the age of 67 following a lengthy illness.
Predeceased by her parents Helen (nee Hallahan) and John McCann and her brothers John and Tom McCann. Loving Wife of 48 years to John J. Callahan. Cherished mother of Colleen Callahan, Maryann Callahan Harber (Rich) and John Callahan (Michelle). Devoted grandmother of Gavin, Meagan, Dakota, Morgan and Summer. Dear Sister of Fran and his wife Maryann McCann. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Survived by her loving \”Jackie Boy.\”
Maryann was an incredible, vibrant woman who lived a great life and a great love of life, family, friends and animals. Maryann graduated from Gloucester City High School in 1963. She ran as an Independent who served as a Gloucester City Councilwoman from 1987 to 1990. Maryann ran and was unsuccessful as a Republican New Jersey State Senate Candidate. She loved Gloucester City and this was her home and was dedicated to many community organizations. She was a realtor but retired from the Camden County Superintendent of Elections in Camden City. Maryann was involved with Saint Mary’s R.C. Church, The House of Charity and Msgr. Lucitt’s Needy Children’s Christmas Fund.
Relatives, friends and all her organizations she belonged to are kindly invited to attend her visitation on Saturday, October 13 from 9 am to 11:30 am at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth Street, (at Brown Street) Gloucester City. Catholic Prayers 11:30 am in the funeral home. Cremation is private. TAXPAYERS FOR COMMON SENSE-During this week’s debate President Obama and Governor Romney argued over a lot of things. One of them was deficit reduction plans. We’re glad that was one issue they tussled over, and we hope we hear more about solutions to our fiscal problems from President Obama, Governor Romney, and every candidate for Congress and the Senate.
There are lots of plans out there, from the wide ranging Simpson-Bowles plan, named after the co-chairs of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, to the Domenici-Rivlin plan, the Gang of Six plan, and many others. But what all these plans have in common is that their grand vision requires future action to work out the details. But our growing debt and the imminent threat of sequestration require immediate action on specific details. So we took our hand at it.

Philadelphia, October 3, 2012 – Mayor Michael A. Nutter announced that Philly311, the City’s centralized customer service agency which serves as the \”civic switchboard\” to city government, has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a new customer relationship management (CRM) solution. Philly311 seeks to invest in a new, more robust and flexible CRM application that will enable the City to provide improved customer service in a more efficient and cost effective manner as well as provide better access to key data about service requests received from Philadelphia citizens. Even before his inauguration, Barack Obama was an imaginary man, the creation of his admirers. Think back to the 2008 Time magazine cover depicting him as FDR, the Newsweek cover of the same year on which he was shown casting Lincoln’s shadow, or the $1.4 million Nobel Peace Prize awarded to him \”for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples\”—this in 2009, less than a year after he had taken office. It was not that Obama had done nothing to deserve these outsized comparisons and honors—it was not just that he had done nothing—it was that he seemed for all the world to be a blank screen on which such hysterical fantasies could too easily be projected, a two-dimensional paper doll just waiting to be dressed in leftist dreams.
This weird quality of emptiness incited the imaginations of his opponents as well. Among the more paranoid on the right, he’s been called several kinds of Manchurian Candidate: a radical disguised as a moderate, a Muslim disguised as a Christian, a foreigner disguised as an American, and so on. The idea was that his hollow identity was his own insidious creation, the result of sealed college records, votes of \”present\” in the Illinois state senate, and a supra-partisan persona carefully crafted after a scuttled lifetime of revolutionary ferocity.
To be sure, Obama has disowned the depth of his past associations with such fire-breathing America-haters as William Ayers (\”A guy who lives in my neighborhood\”) and Jeremiah Wright (\”He was never my spiritual mentor\”) with startling insouciance. And such previous Obamas as the race-baiting, black-talking demagogue of a 2007 video recently covered in full for the first time by The Daily Caller’s Tucker Carlson are not at all apparent in the Obama of the Oval Office or the campaign trail—whom he himself describes as a \”non-threatening\” statesman

In his latest video, O’Keefe catches New Jersey SEIU boss Rahaman Muhammad explain doing business with Democrat politicians like New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez.
According to a press release from O’Keefe’s Project Veritas explains:Back in July, ACORN-aficionado James O’Keefe exposed New York union bosses caught on tape showing their appreciation for the concept of taxpayer-funded \”shovel ready\” jobs–that is the idea of digging holes only to fill them back in and getting the government (taxpayers) to fund the make-work project. Well, Mr. O’Keefe and his hidden camera team have been at it again–this time exposing how how beholden Democrat politicians are to unions like the SEIUs.

O’Keefe’s video is just another example of how far union bosses have gone in buying the Democratic party and, in part, why the SEIU is putting 100,000 boots on the ground to re-elect Barack Obama.

PHILADELPHIA – Tied 2-2 in the final seven minutes of regulation, St. Bonaventure netted two additional goals, in the 84th and 90th minutes, to defeat Saint Joseph\’s, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Finnesey Field. With the loss, the Hawks drop to 4-7-0 overall and 0-2-0 in Atlantic 10 play.
At the 83:42 minute-mark, St. Bonaventure\’s (3-9-0, 1-1-0 A-10) leading scorer Brad Vanino gained possession of the ball off of a dish from Emmett O\’Connor, the Bonnies leader in assists. Vanino put it past Hawks senior goalkeeper Andrew D’Ottavi (Petersburg, N.J./Ocean City) into the lower-left corner of the net to score the eventual game-winner for St. Bonaventure.
