Imitating the sound of a Curtiss Condor\’s engines failing, Frank Baron Jr. mimics the tumbling motions of the aircraft falling from the sky. His hands rush to his shoulders as if grabbing for parachute straps.

\”I thought, \’This is it,\’ and then all of a sudden, brrrr!\” he said, describing the sound of the engines returning to life as he sinks into the back of the couch, grinning, but sighing with relief.

\”That\’s the most scared I ever was, and I love to fly,\” said Baron, 98, who\’d served as an airplane rigger during a crucial period in the evolution of Marine aviation.

Baron\’s love for the Marine Corps was sparked in Glen Burnie, Md., where he was born April 18, 1914.

\”I liked the Marines, I\’d known them from the time I was just a kid,\” Baron explained. He grew up three blocks from a training area used by a Marine unit.

There was no grass, only leaves from the shade trees, Baron said of the training grounds. He said would often visit and ask the Marines if they wanted anything from the commissary.

Clinton Admitted to Hospital with Blood Clot

Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines says her doctors discovered the clot during a follow-up exam Sunday. Reines says Clinton is being treated with anti-coagulants. She was admitted to New York-Presbyterian Hospital so doctors can monitor the medication over the next 48 hours.

Reines says doctors will continue to assess Clinton\’s condition, \”including other issues associated with her concussion.\”

Clinton, 65, fell and suffered a concussion while at home alone in mid-December as she recovered from a stomach virus that left her severely dehydrated. The concussion was diagnosed Dec. 13 and Clinton was forced to cancel a trip to North Africa and the Middle East that had been planned for the next week.

Clinton was also forced to cancel Dec. 20 testimony before Congress about a scathing report on the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans. The report found that serious failures of leadership and management in two State Department bureaus were to blame for insufficient security at the facility. Clinton took responsibility for the incident before the report was released, but she was not blamed.

Lawmakers at the hearings — including Democratic Sen. John Kerry, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman who has been nominated by President Barack Obama to succeed Clinton — offered her their best wishes.

Houston School Cheated, Counselor Says

 By CAMERON LANGFORD

\"\" HOUSTON (CN) – The Houston public school system demoted a counselor for truthfully reporting that her high school\’s administration inflated its graduation rate so it could get an \”Acceptable\” rating from Texas, the counselor claims in court.
Sabrina Norman sued the Houston Independent School District in Harris County Court.
She claims that the high school administration was so desperate to graduate students that it gave them 40 hours of credit for attending a 4-hour Baptist Church service.
Norman was hired to work at Sam Houston High School in June 2008, and as the school counselor it was her job to schedule students\’ classes. While doing so, she says, she became concerned by excessive absences on students\’ records.
