Sgt. Garry W. Hermanson was a member of the 56TH Special Operations Wing, United States Air Force.
He was stationed in Nakhom Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Base in Thailand.
Hermanson was born in Vineland, where he graduated high school, but was living in Newfield when he joined the Air Force.
On Jan.4, 1975, Hermanson was killed as a result of a helicopter crash in which all four crewmen perished. Hermanson left a wife, Sonyata, a Thai native, an adopted daughter, Jackie and a daughter, Sonya.
On Feb.4, 1975, Hermanson was laid to rest in the Siloam Cemetery in Vineland.
There are at least 350 Gloucester County residents who never made it home so there is more work to be done. The community’s assistance in identifying those residents who may be eligible to be placed on the wall is crucial.
