NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) –

The Hudson County town of West New York is considering a widespread sign regulation that could include banning American flags from being flown.

The Board of Commissioners have a draft ordinance for \”General Sign Regulations\”.

Among the prohibited signs under the proposal would be \”Flags, banners and pennants.\”

This has opponents upset.

\”What if I want to hang the American Flag? I can\’t,\” Frank Ferriero told politickerNJ. \”Man, that\’s un-American.\”

The proposed ordinance was first read at a meeting on Wednesday. The final vote on the proposal will be held on Feb. 20 at a 7 p.m. meeting at the municipal building.

The ordinance would also ban signs affixed to the exterior of a window or glass, neon signs framing windows, and window and door signs that exceed 15% of the glass area.

Joseph Kowalski, of Gloucester City, NJ passed away on his 85th Birthday with his five children at his side. Born on January 17, 1928. Joe was predeceased by his wife, the late Pat (nee McCann). Lovingfather of Jane (Michael) Dooling, Eric (Rusty) Kowalski, John (Lynn) Kowalski,Betsy (John) Logan and Joann (Bill) Leeds. Beloved grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his 6 siblings, John, Anne(Edward) Tucker, Steve (Pearl), Andy (Lee), Helen (Edward) Conroy and Henry (Joyce). Brother –in-law to Ray McCann and Colleen (Joseph) Tanzi. Also uncle of many loving nieces and nephews.

Joe graduated from Gloucester City High School. He was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Joe proudly served our country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. After returning from Germany, he played semi-pro football for the Gloucester Mustangs. An electrician by trade, who retired from the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, he was also a member of Co. #4 Gloucester Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Joe loved spending his twilight summers in Ocean City, NJ.

Leaders of The American Legion’s Economic Division say they are encouraged by the latest government report showing a continued decrease in the rate of homelessness among military veterans. On Dec. 10, the departments of Veterans Affairs and Housing and Urban Development announced that the number of homeless veterans dropped by about 7 percent between January 2011 and January 2012. The veteran homeless rate had dropped 12 percent the previous year, according to those same sources.

January 19, 2013-Ewing, NJ … Head coach Brian Bishop captured his 200th career coaching victory as The College of New Jersey men’s swimming team defeated William Paterson University 171-100 on Saturday afternoon in TCNJ’s Aquatic Center.

Bishop, currently in his 24th season in charge of the Lion’s program, recorded all 200 victories with TCNJ. The Lions’ swimmers made sure of their head coach’s milestone by placing first in all 12 individual events and both relay races.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today announced that it has approved Flublok, the first trivalent influenza vaccine made using an insect virus (baculovirus) expression system and recombinant DNA technology. Flublok is approved for the prevention of seasonal influenza in people 18 through 49 years of age.

Loving husband of Jackie (nee Williams) Loving father of Patrick, Jr., Jacqueline LaPento(Chris), Maria, Edward, Ariel, Lisa, Justin, Juliann, Charlene. Cherished grandfather of Nicole, William, Patrick, Joseph, Gianna, Romeo and Valerie. Dear brother of Edward, Charles, Alexander, John, Wayne and the late Ronald. Also survived by many great sister-in-laws. 

 

Patrick was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

Senior League, Big League Softball World Series to Be Played Aug. 4-10

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.

The Executive Committee of the Little League International Board of Directors has approved relocating the Big League Softball World Series tournament to Sussex County, Del.

Currently, the Lower Sussex Little League Complex in Sussex County, Del., is host to the Senior League Softball World Series. Beginning with the 2013 season the Senior League Softball and Big League Softball World Series tournaments will share the facility and be played simultaneously, during the week of Aug. 4-10.
