RALEIGH, N.C. (February 8, 2013) – The Kay Yow Cancer Fund®, in partnership with the Women\’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation for Cancer Research, today announced the start of the seventh annual Play 4Kay® initiative. The national fundraising effort is in memory of former North Carolina State University head coach Kay Yow, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and battled the disease until 2009.

(FEBRUARY 8 2013) WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) urges citizens and visitors to the Northeast or New England states to prepare now for an intense and potentially dangerous winter storm forecast for the area.

FEMA’s partner, the National Weather Service, is warning of a major winter storm and blizzard for areas of New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire from Friday morning through Saturday afternoon. Areas of Vermont and Maine are also under winter storm warnings.

Trenton, NJ – Governor Christie’s ongoing effort to bring government services directly to those who suffered damage or disruption in their lives due to Superstorm Sandy will move forward with a series of free tax assistance events around the state during February and March, the height of tax season, organized by the Treasury Department’s Division of Taxation, to help individuals and businesses prepare their 2012 tax returns.

Feb. 08–TERRE HAUTE — A long-simmering dispute went public Thursday between the New Goshen Fire and Rescue Department and the Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department of Sandford, as officials from the two agencies disagreed about arrangements concerning the latter\’s station and equipment.

John Schoffstall, New Goshen fire chief, issued a media release, detailing his agency\’s side of a 21/2-year process, which has culminated in its assumption of fire protection for Sandford.

According to Schoffstall, the Sandford department approached his in June 2010, advising it would be dissolved because of lack of funds and volunteers. At that time, he said, Sandford requested to be declared part of the New Goshen Fire District.

\”This didn\’t mean hide nor hair to us. We were doing this as a favor to them,\” he said Thursday in his station. Residents of that district deserve protection too, though, he said, and he agreed to initiate the process required to cover that district.

Schoffstall stated in his release that, \”It was represented to the New Goshen Fire and Rescue that the firehouse, equipment and funds from the Sandford Fire Department would be turned over to the New Goshen Fire and Rescue in order that those assets would be used for providing fire protection in the future for the taxpayers of the area that had previously been protected by the Sandford Fire Department.\”

LOS ANGELES (CN) – Donald Trump is not \”the spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan,\” and demands in court that Bill Maher pay him the $5 million Maher offered on \”The Tonight Show\” if Trump could \”come up with proof\” that it isn\’t so.

Trump sued Maher, the political commentator, for breach of contract, in Superior Court. Trump also complains that Maher compared Trump\’s Twitter posts to \”the work of a \’syphilitic monkey.\’\”

Trump did not, however, sue for defamation – just for breach of contract.
