To many, it may well seem that our organization has done nothing to affect major issues; that all we do is meet once a month to gripe. The following article due to be published in the Syemour Hearld Wednesday May 1st dispells that notion. 

I am proud to say that because of your participation, Our Smokies Our Future (OSOF) is all but dead. A special thanks goes to two instrumental members of the steering committe for their research and perserverance; Marc Hayes and former chairman Rob Bremer.

RULIS MARY \”EILEEN\”

On April 28, 2013, (nee Nealon) of Gloucester City, NJ, age 62. She was the loving wife of the late Ronald S. Rulis, beloved daughter of the late Martin and Julia Nealon, loving mother of Edward Charon, Lisa Charon-Duffy (Patrick), Laurie Cary (Bruce) and Kerri Yates (Michael) and dear sister of Michael Nealon (Vonnie), Catherine McKeever (James), Julie Edwards (Wayne), Patricia Carr (Michael), Noreen Renzi (Michael), Thomas Nealon (Joyce), Christine Pastuzak (Andrew) and the late Martin Nealon (Kathy). She is also survived by 8 loving grandchildren.

 

Eileen was the owner of Eileen’s Studio 24 in Gloucester City and had been a hairdresser for 40 years. She was a loving person who enjoying caring for her family and friends.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass on Friday, 11:00 AM, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 426 Monmouth St. Gloucester City, NJ. In lieu of flowers Eileen’s family would appreciate memorial donations be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, 212 Trenton Rd., Browns Mills, NJ 08015. Union, NJ … The College of New Jersey fell to top-seeded Kean University 7-2 in its New Jersey Athletic Conference opening game on Tuesday afternoon in Union, NJ.

The Lions (17-21) will now visit fifth-seeded Ramapo College and look to stave off elimination and reach the Saturday round of games that will be hosted at Kean. The Roadrunners dropped a 6-1 decision to William Paterson University.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For the second consecutive week, freshman sensation Dannah Hayward (Wilkes Barre, Pa./James M. Coughlin) has been named the Atlantic 10 Women\’s Track and Field Rookie of the Week, the league office announced today. Hayward has been selected for meets competed Apr. 22-28 after once again breaking her own school record in the 400 meter hurdles at the 2013 Penn Relays this past weekend.

TAXPAYERS FOR COMMON SENSE–Just how far will a member of Congress go to protect his pork? We\’ve seen a lot of funny stuff over the years, but now a relatively noncontroversial cabinet-level nominee– itself a rarity in Washington–is being held hostage over a boondoggle.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) put a hold on the confirmation of prospective Energy Secretary Ernest J. Moniz on Tuesday until Moniz or the Obama administration gives him the answers he wants on the future of a nuclear project in his home state. The Fiscal Year 2014 budget request released by the White House April 10 cut funding for the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility (MOX), a nuclear reprocessing plant located at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina. The fact that Moniz received a nearly unanimous vote of confidence from the Senate Energy Committee last week did not faze Graham in the least (of course the one \”no\” vote was from Graham\’s fellow Palmetto State Senator, Tim Scott (R-SC)) . \”This is the leverage I have, and I\’m going to use it,\” Graham told reporters after meeting with Moniz on Wednesday.

(nee Tingar), Age 94, of Haddon Heights, NJ, was called home peacefully in her sleep by the Lord on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at home. Born in Bethlehem PA, Mrs. Perino had resided in Haddon Heights for 61 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis Perino for 59 years whom she dated for 4 years prior to their marriage on an Army base during WWII.

 

Loving mother of Marcia T. Burke (Tomas) of Florida and Bruce Louis Perino of Haddon Heights. Beloved grandmother of Andrew T. and Ryan L. Burke. Dear sister-in-law of Elsie Roche (Terence) and Doris Sauer. She is also survived by a second cousin Judy Tingar of Tenn. and many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and great- great nieces and great- great nephews. Predeceased by her parents Theresa M. (nee Huber) and George D. Tingar, and her beloved Nanny (Eva B. \”Mother\” Palmer) and her daughter Mary B. Palmer. During WWII, she served in the O.S.S (now the C.I.A.). Mrs. Perino retired from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. 1. Myth: Expanding Medicaid is \”free money\” for the states.

Reality: The expansion adds an estimated $638 billion in new government spending from 2013–2023. New spending at the federal or state level is reckless in light of the country’s trillion dollar budget deficits and over $16 trillion in national debt. As Governor Rick Perry (R–TX)stated, \”[T]here is no such thing as ‘free’ money. We know there’s only money that’s collected from taxpayers, and money borrowed from other countries like China against the good credit of our children and grandchildren.\”
