BOYERTOWN, Pa. — It was a matchup between the program with the most American Legion World Series victories in history and the one that currently hosts that legion series every year now.

The visiting Shelby Post 82 senior American Legion baseball team won 6-1 against host Boyertown, Pa., on Tuesday night to kick off a seven-game northern swing.

Shelby (8-3) continues its road trip Wednesday with an 11:45 a.m. game at Brooklawn, N.J., and a 7 p.m. contest at Spring City, Pa. All games on the trip can be heard at WOHS 1390-AM and ktcbroadcasting.com.

Post 82 got on the board with a run in the first inning, then broke things open with a four-run seventh.

Starter Dustin Greene pitched six scoreless innings, striking out six and allowing two hits to take the win. Ethan Carpenter allowed one hit and struck out four in two scoreless innings of relief.

Phillip Black pitched the ninth and allowed one run on two hits with one strikeout.

Jay Seagle and Black each had two hits to pace Post 82, with Nick Hastings adding a solo home run in the ninth.
