EDITOR’S NOTE–Recently we published an article titled \”Blight is Spreading in Gloucester City\”. As a follow up to that article we wanted to know what steps the city of Gloucester has taken to fight that problem. As we dug deeper, we learned more and more about the monstrous task that the city’s Housing Office is faced with each day.

GLOUCESTER CITY NJ–(cnbnews.net)Housing Officer Joseph Stecklair, said Gloucester City has an approximate 300 abandoned properties that have fallen in disrepair. According to Stecklair, his office sent out 200 letters in May to violators of Chapter 25, the Brush, Weeds and Debris law.

 On July 16, 2013 at approximately 9:10 PM an 18 year old male parked his bicycle in front of the Gloucester Township Municipal Building to conduct business at the Police Department Watch Desk. While the victim was inside the building, a black male suspect, later identified as 25 year old Pradell Hedgepath of Clementon Borough, stole the bicycle and rode away on it.

On the morning of July 17, 2013, the Gloucester Township Police posted surveillance photographs and video showing the suspect and the theft occurring. The Police Department received a Tip 411 web tip within 1 hour, identifing the suspect as Pradell Hedgepath. Approximately 45 minutes later, an email was received on the Gloucester Township Police email address, from a person who stated he took the bike, but would now like to return the bike to the owner. The investigation revealed that this message was sent by Pradell Hedgepath.

 

Measure would have given tenure-like protection to non-teaching staff 

 

TRENTON, July 18, 2013—The executive director of the New Jersey School Boards Association thanked Governor Christie for today’s veto of Senate Bill 2163, which would have given tenure-like protection to non-teaching staff members.

TRENTON — Island Beach State Park, one of the crown jewels of the state park system, is hosting the first of three \”Harvest The Bay\” festival days on Tuesday, July 23, allowing visitors to learn of the park\’s educational and interpretive programing while also sampling locally-caught seafood prepared by chefs from participating restaurants.

The first \”Harvest The Bay\” festival day will take place Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. at Ocean Bathing Area 1 and on August 20, also from 3-7 pm. Attendance is free with park admission.

 The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office’s Fugitive Investigation Unit and Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Task Force arrested nine men- six on Thursday (7/18), one Tuesday (7/16) and two on 7/10- who were wanted on charges including assaulting a police officer, counterfeiting, weapons possession, drug distribution or possession, child endangerment and resisting arrest.

 

Assisting in the arrests were the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, the FBI’s Violent Offender Task Force and officers of the New Jersey Parole Board as well as the Woodbury, Paulsboro, Harrison Township and Bellmawr police departments.
