Bashar Assad loses U.S. friends as Kerry, Hagel and Biden take Bush\’s stance on Syria – Washington Times

FROM THE Washington Times

The Obama national security team that wants to go to war with Syria and demonizes President Bashar Assad is the same group that, as senators, urged reaching out to the dictator.

As a bloc on the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, President Obama, Secretary of State John F. Kerry, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Vice President Joseph R. Biden all opposed the George W. Bush administration’s playing tough with Mr. Assad.

None grew closer to Mr. Assad and promoted him in Washington more than Mr. Kerry.

\”President Assad has been very generous with me in terms of the discussions we have had,\” Mr. Kerry, as a senator from Massachusetts, told an audience at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in March 2011. He predicted that Mr. Assad would change for the better.

But that same month, pro-democracy demonstrations erupted in Syria that would lead to a civil war, unmasking Mr. Assad’s brutal tactics, including the Aug. 21 unleashing of nerve gas that killed more than 1,400 civilians.

Today, Mr. Kerry is a leading advocate for attacking Mr. Assad’s regime. On Friday, he called the man he once befriended a \”thug and murderer.\”

Mr. Hagel is assembling a small armada in the eastern Mediterranean Sea to launch scores of cruise missiles at the Assad regime as punishment for the gas attack. Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden are lobbying allies and Congress to approve an attack.

RECAP OF THE SHOPRITE OF BROOKLAWN BARTH-MCCARTHY WIFFLEBALL REUNION

By: Pastor Sal of Sal’s Off Shore GAMBLING Parlor

As the sounds of the generators filled the air and one by one each light went dark; \"6a00d8341bf7d953ef014e8ad5e0a5970d-800wi\" the 2013 Shoprite of Brooklawn BARTH – MC CARTHY Wiffleball tournament came to a close for the 24th year. Unlike years past – this year was a special event. The air was filled with emotions as Joe \”Pop\” Barth made his way onto the Field in his name and Wiffleball Reunion Founder Tom \”Tommy\” Mac Adams stood together. How is Brooklawn a town less than 1 square mile, of less than 2,500 people and nestled between the Delaware River on the West, Camden City to the North and Gloucester County to the South known throughout the Country.

Very simple: Pop Barth and American Legion Baseball and the Brooklawn Wiffleball Reunion (largest Wiffleball Tourney in the US). The Barth Family has brought much pride to Brooklawn and the honor of Dennis Barth and his father along with Tom Mac on this field brought out the true meaning of the Reunion, longtime family and friends gathering together.

The Tourney was the opposite of what the Barth Family Tradition built and was one for the ages. A battled was waged by the Etherington and Mc Cann – Healey Funeral Homes before the tourney, began as neither would take on the challenge of Woody as their leader. Woody dug both an early grave that made it hard for either team to dig out of. A surprise was unranked Kei Engineers a team of kids from Brooklawn who upset #4 ranked CNBnews.net and advancing to the quarter-finals. With the loss CNBnews.net was never considered a threat when coupled with the Ciconti Pizza 18 inning game one loss.

As usual the Massengale team was led by a beautiful girl but was forced to surrender early because Chris had to attend a 5- year- olds birthday party. Not to be out done Jeep Mac Adams team went AWOL and was removed from the tourney. Carrying on the Mac Adams Insurance tradition Scott again loss his control an walked away without a trophy

Only France is firmly on board among the major military powers. Britain\’s Parliament rejected the use of force in a vote last week.

With Navy ships on standby in the eastern Mediterranean ready to launch missiles, Congress on Sunday began a series of meetings that are expected to continue over the next several days in preparation for a vote once lawmakers return from summer break, which is scheduled to end Sept. 9.

Senior administration officials gave a two-hour classified briefing to dozens of members of Congress in the Capitol on Sunday.

Lawmakers expressed a range of opinions coming out of the meeting, from outright opposition to strident support for Obama\’s request for the authorization to use force.

Among Democrats, Rep. Sander Levin of Michigan said he\’d approve Obama\’s request and predicted it would pass. Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland said he was concerned the authorization might be \”too broad.\” Rep. Bennie G. Thompson, the senior Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, said the administration still has \”work to do with respect to shoring up the facts of what happened.\”

Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington said she was concerned about what Congress was being asked to approve. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said the war resolution needed tightening.

\”I don\’t think Congress is going to accept it as it is,\” Sessions said.
