The Senate Armed Services Committee has finished its work on the fiscal year 2015 National Defense Authorization Act that sets policy for the Department of Defense (DOD). The bill authorizes $514 billion for the Pentagon and the national security programs at the Department of Energy. And although the Pentagon requested an additional $79.4 billion for undescribed expenditures in so-called \”Overseas Contingency Operations \” (OCO) in Afghanistan, the short-term good news for the taxpayer is the committee didn’t include any authority to spend money for this account.

On May 29, 2014 (nee Hagan) a life long resident of Gloucester City, NJ, age 98 yrs. Mary was the beloved wife of the late George \”Reds\” Johnson and loving mother of JoanNizzardi (Peter) of Wildwood Crest and Patricia Tulini (Late Edward) of Largo FL. She was also the cherished grandmother of 4 and great grandmother of 5 and is also survived by her brother and 2 sisters.

Mrs. Johnson was a long time and devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s RC Church in Gloucester and former member of the Gloucester City Town Watch and Ladies Fire Auxillary. Relatives and friends are invited to meet Tuesday from 10:00am to 11:00AM at the ETHERINGTON-CRERAN FUNERAL HOME, 700 POWELL ST., GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ. A Catholic Prayer service will be held 11:00AM at the Funeral Home. Interment to follow Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill. There will be no evening viewing. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations in Mrs. Johnson’s name be made to the Charity of Your Choice.

GLOUCESTER CITY NJ–(June 3, 2014)At approximately 11:30 am the Gloucester City Police Department became aware of an inappropriate tweet coming from a student at Gloucester City High School. Based on the tweet the student was promptly arrested and assistance was requested from other agencies to bring in bomb sniffing dogs as a precaution. The school was deemed safe and students were returned to class. Jason Zold, age 18, from Brooklawn, NJ was arrested and charged with terroristic threats. The Gloucester City Police Department would like to thank all of those agencies who responded for assistance.

Stanley Krupinski, III, on May 29, 2014, of Barrington. Age 82.

Beloved wife of Katherine Caryl (nee Mataushek) for 58 years. Loving father of Kathleen McAleer (Ray), Linda Nardi and Kenneth (Debbie). Devoted grandfather of Christian Nardi (Lindsey), Shawn Nardi, Amy Nardi, Kyle Krupinski, Heather Krupinski, Helen McAleer and Sierra Krupinski and great grandfather of Lucas Nardi. Dear brother of Charlotte Steube the late Robert Krupinski. Brother-in-law of Peggy Krupinski.

Stanley proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Stanley taught music lessons, played the accordion and was in a band in the 50’s. He was an avid music lover. He loved to travel, his favorite places to be were Disney World and Epcot. He loved the Jersey Shore and the boardwalk. Stanley retired from Boeing after 35 years of service.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing from 9:45 to 10:45am Thursday morning at Trinity Lutheran Church, 200 E. Clements Bridge Road, Runnemede.

Funeral Service 11am Thursday in church.

Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.

 One thing that\’s certain is that Gloucester City is a huge football town. Even though the Eagles disappointed us this year, we\’ll still gather with friends and family to watch this year\’s Super Bowl game and activities.
