Midshipman to Host Rutgers Saturday

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Sept. 18, 2014) – There’s nothing surprising about Navy leading the nation in rushing as the Midshipmen prepare to host Rutgers on Saturday. In 10 of the past 12 years, the school – driven by its triple option – has finished in the top four in the country in rushing.

What is a bit unusual is the 403-yard average in the ground game Navy has during its 2-1 start.

That’s almost 55 yards more per game than the school record for average rushing yards per game, set in 2007. It’s nearly 80 yards more per game than the Mids averaged a year ago, when they finished No. 2 nationally, and it’s a whopping 110 yards more on average than when they topped the national charts in 2008.

Thank You to All Those Involved in the Candlelight Vigil

On Saturday September 13 the Camden County Board of Freeholders and the Addiction Awareness Task $\"2\"$ Force hosted a candlelight vigil to remember those we\’ve lost to addiction and to help raise awareness about the impact that this epidemic is having on our community. Over 350 people attended to remember their family, friends, and loved ones.

I write as a parent who lost her son to a heroin overdose, and also as a member of the Addiction Awareness Task Force. This event was one of the most moving and emotional events that I have had the honor of attending and participating in.

As we all are well aware, New Jersey\’s heroin epidemic is not going away anytime soon – we must join together to take a stand and do whatever is in our power to save lives and raise awareness of this disease and the impact it has on family members.

Fifteen years ago this week, at about 17 minutes past noon, a thunderous explosion rocked lower Manhattan.

The epicenter was the parking garage beneath the World Trade Center, where a massive eruption carved out a nearly 100-foot crater several stories deep and several more high. Six people were killed almost instantly. Smoke and flames began filling the wound and streaming upward into the building. Those who weren’t trapped were soon pouring out of the building—many panic-stricken and covered in soot. More than a thousand people were hurt in some way, some badly, with crushed limbs.

Doris Hope Patterson Manning of Collingswood, Worked at New York Shipyard during World War II

Doris Hope Patterson Manning (nee Hille), a Collingswood resident since 1953, lost her battle with cancer on September 17, 2014 at the age of 92.Survived by her son Ronald C. Patterson and his wife Karen of Schertz, TX, granddaughter Amy Maruschak and husband James of Jackson, MI, grandson Brian C. Patterson of Albuquerque, NM, two great grandchildren, Allison and Carter Maruschak, her sister Lucille Koss of Richmond, TX and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her first husband Charles Patterson, a WWII Normandy Beach survivor who died in 1969 and her second husband John Manning, also a WWII Naval survivor, and her brother Frank O. Hille, Jr., an Army WWII veteran of the Pacific Theater, all of Collingswood.

Doris was a hard worker and lived a long, productive life. She worked at the New York Shipyard during WWII and in the clothing industry for the Pearl Garment Co. for 30 years and was a top line machine operator. Doris was instrumental in helping her brother, Frank Hille, establish and operate a thriving upholstery business which his daughter, Sherry Harvey, still operates.

After retiring, Doris loved going to the Garden State Race Track, casino, and she was a passionate golf fan.

Doris was always very generous to her family and friends and charities, therefore, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the charity of your choice.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing 10 to 11am Saturday morning, September 27, at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE, 126 S. Black Horse Pike, Runnemede, NJ.

Funeral Service 11am at the funeral home.

Interment Egg Harbor City Cemetery, Egg Harbor City, NJ.
