GLOUCESTER CITY – In Mark Maccarone’s first three years at the helm of the Glassboro High football team, he had not won an opening-day game.
After two South Jersey, Group 1 titles and a move up to Group 2, the task of winning the first game of the season was completed in his fourth season with a 49-7 win over Gloucester Catholic on Saturday in a West Jersey Football League-Diamond Division matchup.

It took the Bulldogs six minutes to get their first points, on a 19-yard pass from Mike Maldonado to Quentin Parham to give Glassboro a lead it would not relinquish.
Four minutes later, Maldonado completed a 17-yard TD pass to Ronnie James. To cap the quarter, Maldonado put a 74-yard pass in the hands of Enis Hutchinson for a 21-0 lead to end the first.
The Bulldogs\’ defense also got into the scoring, as nose guard Kenyonn Jones picked off a pass from Rams backup quarterback Chris Garwood and returned it for a 25-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
