WEST DEPTFORD–A vehicle traveling north on Crown Point Road Wednesday afternoon was struck by a train and pushed approximately 60 yards before leaving the tracks and hitting a curb.
The female driver of the silver MDX was conscious after the accident and transported to Cooper Hospital\’s trauma center.
Faith Kirby, a West Deptford resident who lives across the street from the train tracks, heard the initial impact and immediately looked outside to see what was happening.
\”We absolutely knew something was wrong when we heard it. They hit her at the intersection and dragged her down here,\” she said, pointing to the location where the car left the tracks and jumped a curb. \”I think it\’s definitely a miracle she\’s alive right now.\”
Witness accounts say railroad crossing lights were flashing and that the train\’s conductor blew its horn on approaching the intersection.
\”I\’m assuming she tried to beat it,\” said West Deptford Police Chief Sam DiSimone.
