PHILADELPHIA PA (November 3, 2014)—Nathaniel Maybin Jr., of Philadelphia, was back in court
today for a preliminary hearing before Philadelphia Commonwealth Judge Craig M. Washington. Maybin was charged with attempted murder after he allegedly pummeled David Woods Sr., of Gloucester City with a hammer.
According to police on February 20, 2014 Maybin allegedly attacked Woods as he walked out of the Maple Deli at 49th and Lancaster in West Philadelphia. The mugging was captured on the store’s two video cameras. The videos show Woods leaving the store and walking back to his truck, which was parked in front of the building. He had just purchased some lottery tickets and used the ATM machine located inside the store. Maybin comes rushing from behind Woods and strikes him with the hammer on the side of his head. Woods is knocked out and falls to the ground, blood gushing out of his head. Even though Woods is unconscious, the suspect can be seen hitting his victim again and again with the hammer and kicking him in the back. Bernard Williams, a passenger in the truck, jumps out and goes after Maybin with a crowbar. Maybin runs away. Woods is rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania(HUP).
