PEKIN, ILLINOIS–Deputy Sheriff Craig Whisenand was killed in a single vehicle crash while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Armington at approximately 10:30 pm.

Dispatchers lost contact with him prior to his arrival to the call. Another deputy located the accident scene just before midnight at the intersection of Springfield Road and Tomm Road, in Delavan. Deputy Whisenand was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputy Whisenand had served with the Tazewell County Sheriff\’s Office for 15 years.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP NJ–A recent distraction theft occurred in the Blenheim area where two subjects posed as water company employees and asked to check the resident’s faucets. While inside the residence, money and jewelry was taken.

The Gloucester Township Police Department (GTPD) would like all residents to be vigilant about reporting solicitors going door-to-door in the township who do not comply with the Municipal Code or appear suspicious. Solicitors are required to possess and carry an identification card issued by the Township. Never hesitate to contact the GTPD if you are suspicious of someone in your neighborhood who is soliciting. Especially, if they are being pushy or aggressive; be sure to call the GTPD non–emergency number 856-228-4500 or if an emergency situation then dial 9-1-1. 

GLOUCESTER CITY NJ—Robert A. Savage, of Stratford, a teacher\’s aide employed by the Gloucester City Public School District was arrested by the Gloucester City Police on July 29 for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old student. Savage was also the high school girls track coach at the time of the incident

The crime allegedly occurred on or about September 1, 2002, in Gloucester City. 

From the warrant: 

 The defendant on or about September 1, 2002, did commit an act of sexual penetration upon the victim. The victim being at least 13 but less than 16 years old and the defendant has supervisory or disciplinary power over the victim by virtue of the defendant’s legal, profession or occupational status specifically by having vaginal intercourse with the victim while employed as the victim’s teacher’s aide and coach, a crime of the First Degree (NJSA 2C:14-2A (2) (B). 

 Savage was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child, sexual conduct, a crime of the Second Degree (NJSA 2C:24-4A).
