Senator Menendez Announces CECIL Animal Trophies Act to Disincentivize Trophy Killings
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) today announced that he will be introducing the Conserving Ecosystems by Ceasing the Importation of Large (CECIL) Animal Trophies Act to curb the sport killing of species that are proposed to be listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act of 1973.
The CECIL Animal Trophies Act is named after an African lion who was allegedly lured outside of a National Park in Zimbabwe earlier this week, shot with an arrow, and tracked for 40 hours while injured before being shot.

64 Legion Teams Compete for World Series Spots, Regional Tournaments August 5-9

Brooklawn Post 72, the consecutive defending American Legion World Series Champions, are playing in the Mid-Atlantic Region, at Fireman\’s Filed in Leesburg, Va.
The 64 American Legion Baseball teams who won their state tournament will now compete in their respective division\’s regional tournament, Aug. 5-9. Follow the regional games online here. One team from each region will advance to the Legion\’s 89th World Series, Aug. 13-18, in Shelby, N.C.

The Catholic Community of St. Mary’s in Gloucester City celebrated the priesthood of Monsignor James P. Curran and Reverend Stephen Chellan on October 25.
On that day all parishes in the Diocese of Camden and throughout the nation were called to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood.
St. Mary’s parishioners, with the guidance and coordination of Sister Christine Hartnett, O.P., de-veloped their own special way of honoring their priests. Gospel readings, prayers, and hymns like \”Here I Am, Lord\” were selected to mark that day.

OPINION : Senate DRIVEs in the Wrong Direction
Yesterday, Congress passed the 33rd short-term extension of the federal government’s transportation program since 2009. (There was also a two year patch from 2012-2104, which we won’t call \”short-term\” but was still short of definitive action.) This move by the Senate will take $8 billion of general fund revenue and dump it into the Highway Trust Fund to cover the next three months. The $8 billion in revenue is the result of various gimmicks and tricks, and some of that revenue will not actually materialize for nearly a decade. But the program expires tonight and Congress wanted to split town for August, so the bill passed.

Deputy Sheriff Del Daniels succumbed to injuries sustained 11 days earlier when the patrol SUV he was a passenger in left the roadway and overturned in a ditch on Highway 15-401, near McColl.
It is believed that the vehicle may have struck standing water in the roadway during a period of heavy rain. Deputy Daniels was transported to a hospital in Florence where he remained on life support until succumbing to his injuries.
Deputy Daniels had only served with the Marlboro County Sheriff\’s Office for one week when the crash occurred. He also served as a firefighter with the Bennettsville City Fire Department.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in Gloucester City, Mike graduated from Gloucester High School in 1961 and continued his education at Glassboro State College where he earned his BA and Masters Degree. Mike earned his PH. D from Nova University, Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1989. Mike worked for the Cinnaminson Board of Education at Cinnaminson High School for 44 years where he rose to the position of Principal and retired in 2009.

Cape May Coast Guard Sunset Parade Tuesday
CAPE MAY, N.J. – The Coast Guard is scheduled to host its third Sunset Parade of 2015 in honor of the Coast Guard\’s 225th birthday at Training Center Cape May, Tuesday at 7:40 p.m.
Sunset Parades are military displays of marching troops and the Coast Guard Recruit Precision Drill Team. More than 250 recruits will march in the parade and strike the National Ensign from the Parade Field at sunset.

Camden County College’s Center for Leadership and Responsibility in Blackwood offers widely diverse programs, short term \”mini-courses\” and other events for teacher continuing education credit and for the general public. Programs are offered at the Main Campus in Blackwood and also at The Rohrer Campus in Cherry Hill. In the past, the Center has offered speaking events and courses on the Civil War, Egypt, Cleopatra, Sex and Society, and \”Boardwalk Empire\”, The Tuskegee Airmen, among many others, and has featured renowned guest speakers, including historian and author David Eisenhower. The variation of what’s offered is limited only by the imagination of the Center’s Director, Dr. John Pesda, which is virtually limitless.
