“We set out to make this a true neighborhood destination where everyone can come together and celebrate one of the most fun seasons of the year,” said Evil Genius Co-Founder Trevor Trevor Hayward . “It’s going to be an unforgettable experience and we can’t wait for you to see all the little details.”
Taphouse of Horrors is set to be the Fishtown neighborhood’s premiere Halloween destination, designed as an anthology to pay homage to cult-classic horror from movies and tv, to books, and legends. Guests are greeted immediately by haunted and otherworldly sights as they approach the experience.
Gothic-style gargoyles guard an entryway lit by flamed lanterns amid blood-splattered windows, and spell bound doorways. As guests enter the Taphouse of Horrors they step through low-lying fog into the Witch’s Lair complete with bubbling cauldrons and shelves lined with potion bottles and spellbooks.
When it comes time to order from their menu of specialty Halloween inspired bits and brews, guests will visit Frankenstein’s Laboratory. Bartenders work tirelessly amid shelves stocked with oddities, experiments gone wrong, test tubes, and heads of slain monsters. Their seasonal brew “Trick or Treat’, a Chocolate Pumpkin Porter brewed with cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and allspice flows endlessly from the taps. Fans of cocktails can opt for the Hellfire Mule, a sweet and smoky concoction featuring bourbon, maple syrup, ginger beer, and charred marshmallow or the Poison Apple consisting of apple cider, cranberry, cinnamon whiskey, and edible glitter. The Black Widow will also be available featuring mezcal, blackberry, grape, and ginger beer. Wine fans can go for a Hocus Pocus Sangria complete with sweet wine, green apple, orange, strawberry, and pineapple. Two specialty shots will be available for the adventurous guest. The Jekyll & Hyde shot featuring vodka, grenadine, and sprite as well as the Poison Needle shot made with lime jello and vodka served from a syringe.
If guests get hungry they can reach for a variety of themed menu items including mummy dogs, a classic hot dog stuffed with cheese and served on a crescent roll, or coffin flatbreads, ghastly shaped handhelds featuring pepperoni, buffalo chicken, or vegetarian toppings. Pop a few all seeing eye deviled eggs or eyeball shaped caprese skewers. Guests with a sweet tooth can devour cemetery dirt, a dirt pudding with cookie crust and topped with gummy worms or try the graham cracker pumpkin cheesecake dip.
Tables are situated next to shrines to your favorite serial slashers. Complete with the killer’s trophies, masks, and weaponry. Their usual cute and comfy 90’s inspired couch area has been transitioned into a viewing area for The Ring amid bookshelves stocked with countless Goosebumps novels and horror VHS selections.
Guests can travel through a hallway run amok with killer clowns to enter the beer garden adorned with gravestones, giant spiders, and scarecrows.
The limited time event is being master-minded by Sean Reed, the creative mind behind last year’s wildly successful Harry Potter pop-up at The Ridley House. With Reed at the helm, Evil Genius promises a fully realized Halloween experience that blends nostalgia, fun, and frights for beer lovers and spooky season fanatics alike.
“Guests can expect over 200 horror movie posters. Interactive animatronics, and shrines to their favorite horror movies complete with masks, memorabilia, and atmosphere” said Reed.
Reed is also working on taking the Evil Genius annual Christmas pop-up (known as “Most Festive Brewing in Philadelphia) up a notch or three with a full scale, ceiling to floor holiday theme display and pop-up that will debut in mid November through New Year’s Eve. Details are forthcoming.
