Irene M. Levecchia, 85, of Bellmawr

Irene M. Levecchia, age 85, of Bellmawr, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on November 16, 2025.

Irene was a remarkable hand quilter involved with the Love Apple and Wenonah Depot Quilters, who found later joyful success trading fabric on eBay. She was previously self-employed as a palmist and personal chef.

Irene is predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Tony, son Stephen, daughter Jean Boddingham, granddaughter Holly Boddingham, and brothers Ray, Jack, and Dan Swissler. She is survived by her sons Tony (Tomoko) & Tom (late Gail), grandson Bob Boddingham, great grandson Prince, sister Eva Rizzo, and many loving nieces and nephews.

In accordance with the deceased’s wishes, no service will be held. We invite you to please keep Irene and the family in your thoughts at this time.

George J. Winters, 75, formerly of Cramer Hill and Gloucester City

On November 15, 2025. Voorhees, NJ formerly of Cramer Hill section of Camden as well as Gloucester City. Born in Camden, NJ. He was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Winters. George is survived by his son, William J. Winters; brothers, Joseph and Freddy Winters. He was predeceased by this beloved wife, Helen on February 23, 2007.

George was a welder and worked for many years with Allied Waste Management in Philadelphia, PA.

Rowan Men’s Soccer Advances to the NCAA Championship

MIDDLETOWN, CT – Carill Asanji and Johnny Troiano provided the goals, and Travis Holiday notched the shutout, as Rowan defeated #11 Wesleyan (CT), 2-0, in the Second Round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. The Profs (17-3-4) have punched their ticket to the NCAA Sectionals and the round of 16 for the first time since 2019.

The Profs will face Emory, which was a 3-0 winner over Hampden-Sydney, on November 22nd, with the site and time to be announced.

HOME COUNTRY: As I lay there in my super-duper borrowed-from-the-Army mummy bag

As I lay there in my super-duper borrowed-from-the-Army mummy bag, I had time to think about things. Mostly, I pondered how stupid I’d been to take a dog team out across the North Slope of Alaska in November.

As I can now contemplate, 50 years later, it was a dumb thing to do, making the first crossing north to south from Prudhoe Bay’s frozen oil fields to the Brooks Range. Brooks Range roughly translates to “that frozen rockpile there to the south.”

But even then, in the deadly silence of the arctic, I knew my doing this was … well, me. I guessed at the time it would cost me my life, but I don’t know if I could’ve done otherwise. I HAD to do it. Ever since that first dogsled trip nearly a year earlier, I knew I was entangled in driving a dog team for good purposes. And good stories.

NJ BLOOD SERVICES CALLS FOR BLOOD DONORS AHEAD OF THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY

NEW JERSEY — New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS) is calling on community members to donate blood ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, a period when donations traditionally drop and hospital demand remains high. All who come to donate at any NJBS donor center or blood drive between Sunday, November 23rd and Sunday, November 30th will receive a festive long-sleeved t-shirt as a thank-you for helping patients in need. The holiday season is historically challenging for the blood supply, as school breaks, travel, and seasonal illness often keep regular donors from giving. Last year, NJBS saw nearly a 36% drop in blood donations during the week of Thanksgiving alone.

Evelyn Barbano, grew up in South Philly

On November 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family Evelyn Barbano peacefully entered heaven. Endearingly called Evie, was born on March 10, 1929 and grew up in South Philly to the late Ethel Frank (Koff) and the late Morriss Frank. Along side with her siblings the late Rita Frank and Florence Horwitz.

Evelyn lit up every room she walked into; she had a way of making life feel lighter. She loved her bingo nights, the thrill of pulling the lever of the lucky 7s slots at the casinos, and was always ready to dance to her favorite band The Goodfellas. Her happiest place, though, was always in the middle of her family and friends. Evelyn didn’t just touch lives she changed them. To have known her was to feel loved, and to love her was one of life’s greatest gifts.

Commissioners to Host Homeless Services and Resource Fair

Today, at 10 a.m., at the Cathedral Kitchen, 1514 Federal Street, Camden, the Board of Commissioners will be hosting a homeless services and resource fair to provide free necessary services to those in need. This fair will feature on–site showers and haircuts, breakfast and lunch, and access to several organizations to help individuals with employment, housing, legal support, and mental health services.

“Our homelessness resource fairs help to deliver critical wraparound services directly to people who are experiencing homelessness,” said Commissioner Virginia Betteridge, liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services. “This is just one step in towards our goal of ending homelessness in Camden County once and for all.”
