Jefferson Health Recognizes South Jersey Team Members

Jefferson Health has announced its latest New Jersey recipients of the DAISY Award, an international recognition program that honors nurses for their extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care, and recipients of the Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award, which recognizes non-nursing staff who work alongside nurses to likewise enhance the patient experience. Recipients are selected by Jefferson’s Clinical Recognition Committee in New Jersey to celebrate team members who go “above and beyond” in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.

“These honorees truly embody the heart of Jefferson — showing up each day with compassion, skill, and a genuine commitment to making every patient feel safe, seen, and cared for,” said Kimberly Edson, DNP, MBA, MS, RN, NEA-BC. “It means so much to be able to recognize their dedication and the lasting difference they make in the lives of our patients and across our hospitals.”

DAISY Award Honorees:

Jessica Guzman, RN, of Somerdale was honored with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at Jefferson Stratford Hospital for delivering compassionate, patient-centered care in the Emergency Department. A patient arriving by ambulance shared that Guzman provided the best emergency care they had ever experienced. Throughout the encounter, Guzmn remained calm, attentive and deeply compassionate – going “above and beyond” by personally escorting the patient to their inpatient room. Her ability to create a sense of comfort and trust during a vulnerable moment left a lasting impression.

Paula Boyd, RN, a clinical coordinator from Williamstown, received the DAISY Team Leader Award for Extraordinary Nurses at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital. In the Emergency Department, Boyd leads with confidence and clarity, fostering a supportive environment that encourages learning and growth. Known for her calm, focused presence in high-pressure situations, Boyd mentors her team with patience and intention – helping clinicians strengthen their skills while delivering safe and effective care. Her leadership consistently elevates both team performance and the overall patient experience.

BEE Award Honorees:

Ashley Velez Rodriguez, a patient care technician from Camden, received the BEE Award at Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital for her critical role in identifying a subtle change in a patient’s condition. While completing routine rounding and vital checks, Rodriguez noticed something was “off” and immediately alerted the primary registered nurse. Rodriguez’s quick thinking helped the care team recognize a stroke in time, allowing the patient to receive urgent, lifesaving treatment.

Winners are selected by Jefferson’s Clinical Recognition Committee. The DAISY Foundation, founded in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, honors nurses worldwide for exceptional, compassionate care. Learn more at www.daisyfoundation.org
