The Top 30 Communities in New Jersey with the Highest Property Taxes

NJ Advance Media released an article recently regarding the 30 communities in the state of New Jersey with the highest property tax rate. Keep in mind that there are 565 towns/cities in the entire state. So to be listed in the top 30, in this case, is not something to brag about.
Residents living in any of those 30 communities should call their mayor and city council/commissioners and demand they explain why they are paying more in taxes than 500 plus other communities in this state.
Ask why other communities can function with less money?
Ask when was the last time your taxes didn’t increase?
According to NJ Advance Media, last year New Jersey’s average property tax bill of $9,112 was the highest-in-the-nation.
Listed are just five of those 30 cities. Below is a link to the full article where you’ll find the names of the other 25.
23. Gloucester City

WONDER WHY TAXES ARE SO HIGH?–The Gloucester City School Board this past December spent $1.3 Million to install synthetic turf on the school’s football field; a few years ago they also spent $1 million to build a football field with synthetic turf at the district’s Middle School, even though there are no elementary football teams in South Jersey (CNBNews photo)
A city that is so poor that it qualifies to be an Urban Enterprize Zone, one of only 32 in the state. It is so poor it qualifies to be an ABBOTT District, only 30 other school districts in the state have that unwanted distinction. Another ranking you don’t want is being named a City with one of the highest property taxes in the state. Unfortunately, Gloucester City has that label too. NJ Advance Media ranks it at Number 23, out of 30.
In December, the City School Board approved a $1.3 million contract for a synthetic football field and running track at the high school. READ ARTICLE

Listed are just five of those communities. A link with the full list is below.

POLL REVEALS NJ RESIDENTS FED-UP WITH HIGH TAXES—The public’s views of New Jersey’s quality of life and rating of the state as a good place to live are toward the higher end of their historical range. However, the number of residents who want to leave the state is at a high point, according to the Monmouth University Poll. The desire to exit New Jersey is showing a marked partisan gap, with more Republicans wanting to leave, that was not evident in prior years. Regardless, the state’s property tax burden remains the top reason people cite for their intention to get out of New Jersey, as it has been in the past.
“It’s worth noting that the areas with the least positive views of New Jersey’s quality of life are the heavily Democratic urban areas and the heavily Republican rural counties,” said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute.
