REPRINTED with permission of Blue Jersey

  • I hate to be a downer on this, the first day of a new week, but the war rages in Iraq and many of our neighbors here in the Garden State continue to pay a heavy price. A very heavy price indeed.

  • Congressman Rush Holt continues to press for answers to the deadly Anthrax attacks from 2001? You\’re forgiven if your recollection is a bit fuzzy, it has been 6 years afterall.

  • Governor Corzine is under some question for some gifts he gave to his ex-ladyfriend, who happens to be a Union leader. While I have never had a girlfriend myself, I kinda thought the whole point was to do nice stuff for one another?

  • Here\’s the lastest on the toll roads debate. It sounds very Christie Whitman-esque to me.

  • Did you know the woman who discovered the G-spot has a south Jersey connection?

  • We all cheered the success of our beloved Scarlet Knights on the gridiron last year, but as Rutgers U continues to cut sports, some of the best student athletes are looking out of state for colleges.

  • The state legislators are working to make the cellular phone industry a bit more consumer friendly. They must have seen my last bill!

  • The economic forecast for South Jersey looks bright, with tourism, businesses and hospitals in the region poised to capitalized on a rebounding economy.

  • I am still buzzing from last night\’s Garden State Equality gay-la. Unfortunately I didn\’t get a whole lot of sleep, so if I missed a news nugget out there somewhere, lay it on us our comment section.

Chuckles by brother Geo/The Eternal Optimist

Three friends had a good friend named Joe and he was, naturally, an eternal optimist. At every bad situation he would always say \’\’It could have been worse.\’\’ His friends hated that quality about him, so they came up with a story so horrible that not even Joe could come up with a bright side. So the next day, only two of his friends showed up for a golf date. Joe asked, \’\’Where\’s Gary?\’\’ And one of his friends said, \’\’Didn\’t you hear? Yesterday, Gary found his wife in bed with another man, shot them both, and then turned the gun on himself.\’\’ Joe says,\’\’Well it could have been worse.\’\’ Both his friends said, \’\’How in hell could it be worse? Your best friend just killed himself!\’\’ Joe says, \’\’If it had happened two days ago, I\’d be dead now!

Courier Post Spotlight on Rams alumni Agnus McGlade Berenato

Berenato grounded in faith and family

    Sunday, March 4, 2007

    By CELESTE E. WHITTAKER
    Courier-Post Staff

    Faith, family and basketball.

Those three words have played a huge part in Agnus (McGlade) Berenato\’s life for as long as she can remember.

She leaned on her faith and her family when she made the decision to leave Georgia Tech after 15 years as the head women\’s basketball coach to accept the same position at the University of Pittsburgh four years ago.

The Gloucester Catholic High School graduate, who has nine siblings, leaned heavily on her faith when her father died when she was in the seventh grade and her mother was left to raise the children, half of whom were still school-aged.

The mother of five children who range in age from 13 to 24 has been married for 25 years, yet complacency has not set in, personally or professionally. Berenato does not believe in settling or leading an uneventful or unexamined life. Read more

Why should we have to call the Street Dept.?

    Ms. Ritchie,

Thank you for fully illustrating an obvious problem. A citizen of this community had to actually call public works for a street sign. One would naturally think that a street sign is a high priority in response to emergencies.

I firmly believe that someone from the police or fire departments reported this issue to public works prior to a resident making a phone call.

Why does it take a phone call from a resident or a posting on a web blog to get something done? For public safety, a temporary sign could have been placed in short order while the permanent sign was being built.

Also, I am not talking about low priority issues like branch pick-up. I have no problem calling the city for that issue.

If public works keeps chipping away at their issues in this city, this city will be a even better place to live.

    Irish Chuckles by KenMac

    Laugh with the Irish

Paddy was driving down the street in a sweat because he had an
important meeting and couldn\’t find a parking place. Looking up to
heaven he said, \”Lord take pity on me. If you find me a parking
place I will go to Mass every Sunday for the rest of me life and give
    up me Irish Whiskey!\”

    Miraculously, a parking place appeared.

Paddy looked up again and said, \”Never mind, I found one.\”
