Christopher Fulton James, 58, of Gloucester City

Peacefully on October 15, 2025. Age 58. Of Gloucester City. “Stix” & “Jamesy”. Predeceased by his parents, William F. James and Rosemary James (nee Keoghan). Beloved father of Shannon (Joseph) Aboushanab, Angela James and Elizabeth James. Cherished grandfather of Samir and Ramy Aboushanab. Beloved brother of Therese (Mike) Smollock, late William James (surviving Virginia), late Michael James (late Jo-Ann), late Kathy James, Patrick James, late Steven James, Maria (Tom) Kerchersky, David James, and Marybeth (Scott) Jeffries. Survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Chris was born in Camden, NJ and was a lifelong and proud resident of Gloucester City, NJ. He graduated in 1985 from Camden County Vocational & Technical Schools where he proceeded to prove his hard work ethic through working for the City of Gloucester as a Laborer for several years, and for InTest under the Mechanical Assembly department for over 15 years. He was a former member of the Gloucester City String Band and the Broomall String Band. Chris was a diehard fan of the Buffalo Bills, enjoyed spending his time outside, with friends, and drumming away in the garage with a smile and a wave.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Monday morning, October 27, 2025 from 10 to 11:30 AM at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 851 Monmouth St., Gloucester City, where his funeral service will be celebrated at 11:30 AM. Interment will be private.

Elizabeth M. Benson, 88, of Voorhees

On October 21, 2025, at the age of 88. Of Voorhees. (nee Wolf) Formerly of NE Philadelphia. Predeceased by her husband, Harry Benson; her parents, Joseph F. Wolf and Elizabeth Wolf (nee Hughes); and her sister Pat Kerstetter (late Donald). Survived by her brother, Joseph F. “Jay” Wolf and his wife, Barbara; nieces and nephews, Jay Wolf (Marie) Tracy Stefan (Michael), Donald Kerstetter and Christine Gallo (Ed); great nieces and nephews, Courtney Stefan (Rickey Santosusso), Heidi Wolf, Jay Jay Wolf, Greta Wolf and Greer Wolf.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Gloucester Catholic High School. Before retirement, she worked many years for CIGNA in Philadelphia.

Marie Cherville, 75, of Maple Shade

Maple Shade, NJ. Formerly of New Brunswick, On October 18, 2025. Age 75.  Marie is survived by her son, Lewis Cherville and will be sadly missed by her friends and staff at The Palace Rehab and Care Center.

Mary Jane Goheen, 82, of Gloucester City

Gloucester City – Mary Jane Goheen, Age 82. Of Gloucester City passed away at Cooper Hospital in Camden on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

Born in Camden, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and the late Henrietta (nee Dunn) Richards. Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 40 years, John Goheen and a niece; Heather, four nephews; Raymond, Ryan, Bobby, Todd and great-nieces; Victoria, Julia, Gia, Deven, Riley, Bella, Emily Jane and great-nephew, Bobby. Mary Jane was also predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Ralph.

Mary Jane was an employee of the Delaware River Port Authority of Pennsylvania and New Jersey for over forty years since graduating from Gloucester Catholic High School. She was past president of Professional Secretaries International, Camden Chapter. Mary Jane was a devoted parishioner of Saint Mary’s R.C. Church in Gloucester City where she was longtime director of St. Mary’s Saints and Singers. She served as a delegate to the New Jersey Governor’s Library Study Conference and was a member of the Bishop’s Family Life Commission of the Diocese of Camden. Mary Jane was one of four recipients of the YWCA Career Achievement Recognition Award in 1984. 

Relatives, friends, former and current Delaware River Port Authority employees are kindly invited to Mary Jane’s visitation on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 10:15 to 11:15 am at St. Mary’s R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City, NJ 08030. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 am in the church. Inurnment to follow in New Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr. Luis A. Rivera, 66, of Philadelphia

Luis A. Rivera, Jr. affectionately known as “Flaco” was born August 9, 1959, in Coamo, Puerto Rico to Lydia E. Reyes and the late Luis A. Rivera, Sr. He passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, the age of 66 in Philadelphia, PA.

Flaco, was educated in Bronx, NY and worked many years as a carpenter.

Proceeding him in death, his brother Edgardo “Ed” Rivera and sister Mildred E. Rivera, better known as “Millie”.

Flaco leaves to mourn his departure, his mother Lydia Reyes, beloved brothers Richard “Yusuf” Rivera, Alex Rivera, and Hector Rivera, one sister in-law Marysol Arroyo-Rivera a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many other family and friends.

At his request, services are private.

George W. Carmona, 94, of Collingswood

George W. Carmona passed away peacefully at his home in Collingswood, NJ on October 8, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.  Age 94 years.

Beloved husband of 65 years to Joan M. Carmona (nee Blickley).  Loving father of David (Gabrielle) Carmona of Atco, NJ and William Carmona of Winslow Twp., NJ.  Devoted “Gramps” to Luke, Carli and Daria Carmona.  Dear brother of the late John Carmona.  He is also survived by nieces and nephews. 

Born and raised in Strathmere, New Jersey, George graduated from Ocean City High School. Following graduation, George enlisted in the Navy when soon thereafter he served in the Korean War. Upon his return, he enrolled in Drexel University where he earned his Degree in Business.

George started his career in Hotel Management then moved onto specializing in Casino Management. Post retirement George remained active in the Hotel and Casino industry while serving as a consultant for ground-up construction of casinos in the Caribbean as well as Native-American owned land. 

George was an avid boater and fisherman and had a great love for the game of squash. In the fall, vacations always consisted of a trip to the Outer Banks. 

The later part of George’s life included, with his wife, visits to an extensive list of countries and islands. 

And a love of fine dining and cooking remained a constant throughout George’s life.

George was known for his witty responses: “you are full of prune juice” being one of them and when asked how he was he would always say, “miserable and grouchy, but consistent. Oh, “and it’s all your fault” And, “now you know everything.”

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Friday, October 17, 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 820 Haddon Ave, Collingswood, NJ 08108.  Prayer service will follow at 11:00 AM.  Interment private.

Lois S. Noyes (nee Sharp) 92, of Haddon Township, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 65 years, Sydney W. Noyes. Beloved mother of Nancy Celebre (Bob) of Haddon Twp. and Jeffrey Noyes (Deborah) of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Loving grandmother to Rebecca and Grace Celebre and Hannah Noyes (Maddie), proud great-grandmother to Shea Niziak-Noyes. She is survived by a sister, Betty(Sharp)Pierce and many cherished, nieces and nephews, as well as several dear friends.

Nancy H. Taylor of Texas, Past Gcity Resident, GHS and Douglas C. Alum

Nancy H. Taylor, nee Plews, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 30, 2025 at her home in Brookshire, TX from pancreatic cancer. 

She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 15, 1942 to Harry and Marian Plews. Nancy was the second-born of five children, where the family grew up in Gloucester City, NJ in a bustling house on Monmouth street. She attended high school at Gloucester City High School where she was a cheerleader, a member of the student council, and a member of the National Honor Society. It was here in Gloucester City where she met Bill Taylor, and they began dating during their high school years. Nancy attended Douglas College of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ where she received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. After college, Nancy and Bill married on October 17, 1964 and settled in Gloucester Township, NJ. In 1981, Bill’s job opportunities led the family to Texas where they settled in Spring, TX, and remained there for 40 years before moving to Brookshire, TX with their daughters in 2021.

Joan M. McCarthy, 83, of Cherry Hill

Joan (Scholes) McCarthy, 83, of Cherry Hill, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving daughters on October 1, 2025.

Joan was a devoted mother, wife, sister, and dear friend to many. Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gene, and she is survived by their three daughters: Bond (John) Kraemer, Eaen (Dan) Marini and Cara Czeiner; six grandchildren, Drew, Trevor, Zackary, Alex, Arden, Hannah; her dear cousin, Kathy (Edward) Braun; and many more family and friends.

Joan was a talented artist, working as an art teacher for many years and then a special needs teacher until her retirement.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday, October 10, 2025, 10 AM to 11 AM at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Holy Saviour Church,  50 Emerald Ave., Westmont, NJ.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 AM.  Interment private.
