Yuma Mayor Withdraws Proclamation Thanks to Trump’s Successful Efforts to Confront Border Crisis

WASHINGTON — Today, Mayor of Yuma, Arizona, Douglas Nicholls, at a meeting with Senior Official Performing the Duties of Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) Ken Cuccinelli, withdrew an April 2019 local State of Emergency proclamation regarding the ongoing security and humanitarian crisis on the Southwest border.

Mayor Nicholls officially issued the proclamation on April 16, 2019, after the historic flow of illegal immigration caused thousands of illegal aliens to be released into his city. The mayor credits successful efforts by the Trump Administration in confronting the crisis, including initiatives implemented by DHS and the Government of Mexico, that have substantially relieved the city’s burden in caring for the overwhelming number of illegal immigrants.

“The president’s strategy to address the crisis at the Southern border, particularly Central American families illegally flooding across the border, has worked and we are seeing an impact in border towns across the country,” said Acting Deputy Secretary Cuccinelli. “The number of Central American family units apprehended has decreased by 85% since the height of the crisis in May. And thanks to a number of policies we implemented, we have ended catch and release and are returning, removing and repatriating more aliens from the border than ever before. Now, communities like Yuma are directly seeing the effect of our efforts. We are pleased to stand alongside Mayor Nicholls and to work together to secure the border and protect the American people.”

“I am grateful to be able to withdraw the Proclamation of Emergency due to the Trump Administration\’s policy changes that diminish the flow of the migrant family units to the Yuma area and prevent releases into the Yuma community,\” said Mayor Nicholls.

On September 23, DHS officially announced that it ended widespread catch and release for Central American families arriving at the border. We are now removing, returning, and repatriating more illegal aliens, including Central American families, faster than ever before, and illegal border crossing cases are completed faster than ever before. Under the Trump Administration, those who present themselves as families after crossing the border illegally will no longer be released into the United States. There has never been a time when illegally crossing the border is less likely to succeed than right now.

With electronic nationality verification for northern triangle countries, we have been able to repatriate aliens from these countries within hours of their arrival at the border,

The Trump Administration has signed more than a dozen agreements with Central American countries to increase border security, combat transnational criminal organizations, and enhance economic development in the region.

We have now built nearly 100 miles of new border wall, including wall in the Yuma sector.

November marked the sixth month in a row that enforcement actions at the border declined due to decreased migration flows. Defying seasonal trends for the past seven years, CBP reports an overall decline in illegal cross border activity in November compared to October. Enforcement actions along the Southwest border involving family units declined nearly 4% to 13,154 and enforcement actions involving single adults were down 8.4% to 25,755. CBP’s Southwest border enforcement actions in this fiscal year to date are 29% lower than for the same period last fiscal year.

Illegal Immigrants Can Get Drivers Licenses in NJ

TRENTON, NJ–A new law signed by NJ Gov. Phil Murphy will allow drivers licenses to be issued to illegal immigrants. According to a New Jersey101.5 report, supporters of the measure claim roads will be safer as a result. However, opponents argue the state is just rewarding the lawbreakers.

The legislation creates two classes of license. One is compliant with federal REAL ID standards, and will be the only sort of license that can be used to fly on a plane or enter a federal facility starting in October of 2020. Applicants for those licenses will have to prove they have a legal right to live in the U.S. and New Jersey.

The other is a standard license — similar to the ones most NJ residents have now — and will be available to all Garden State residents, regardless of immigration status.

Sue Fulton, the Motor Vehicle Commission\’s chief administrator, told the state Senate Transportation Committee on Dec. 12 many immigrants are already driving without a license because they can’t get one.

\”In my view, our roads are safer when our drivers are trained, tested, licensed and insured,\” she said.

An AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety report found over a two-year period, nearly 20% of fatal crashes involved unlicensed or invalidly licensed drivers.

Fulton also argued an unlicensed driver is more likely to flee the scene of a crash, complicating police efforts.

Route 22 Eastbound Connector to Hillside Ave. to Close Next Week

Safety improvement project begins in Hillside Signed detour will be in place

(Trenton)(December 29, 2019)– – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced that the Route 22 eastbound connector ramp to Hillside Avenue will be closed next week as the Route 22 Hilldale Place/North Broad Street safety improvement project begins in Hillside, Union County. The $10.3 million federally-funded project will replace the existing bridge that serves as the Route 22 eastbound connector. The new bridge will meet current design and safety standards and improve the vertical under clearance over Route 22.

It will also include an acceleration lane for the Route 22 eastbound entrance ramp from Hillside Avenue, a deceleration taper for the Route 22 eastbound entrance ramp to Hillside Avenue, and a right turn lane in the area between N Broad Street and Harding Terrace.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2019, NJDOT’s contractor, Anselmi & DeCicco, Inc., is scheduled to close the Route 22 eastbound connector ramp to Hillside Avenue. The ramp from Hillside Avenue to Route 22 eastbound will remain open.

Variable Message Signs will provide advance notification to motorists of the traffic pattern changes associated with the work. PATCO Hosts \”Transportation YOU\” Event at Lindenwold Facility

Goal of program is to educate young women on the importance of transportation industry

DRPA/PATCO’s Engineering Department was the proud host of a program that offers young women the opportunity to explore first-hand a wide variety of transportation careers.

The program is called Transportation YOU and it is run through the Women\’s Transportation Seminar (WTS).

Dozens of young women, ages 13-18, recently had the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes look at PATCO’s main headquarters in Lindenwold, New Jersey.

PATCO General Manager John Rink, PATCO Director of Equipment John Barrett and DRPA Senior Engineer Elisabeth Klawunn conducted a tour of the Lindenwold facility that included a look at the equipment shop and the work needed to keep PATCO trains running and clean.

Through the program, WTS chapters work to make a difference in the lives of young girls by offering programs and activities that will spark their interest in all modes of transportation and encourage them to take courses in math, science, and technology, which are the stepping stones to exciting careers that can change the face of the transportation industry. The program is led by over 30 women professionals (engineers, planners, marketing, and finance professionals) who volunteer their time as mentors.

Alert system uses geo-fencing technology to provide information to motorists

(Trenton)

– New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti today announced the launch of 511NJConnect, a new alert system that allows transportation agencies the ability to proactively provide information directly to motorists who are stuck in long-term highway closures.

At the conclusion of the last winter, Commissioner Gutierrez-Scaccetti directed New Jersey’s transportation agencies to find a way to use technology to keep motorists better informed in the event of an extended highway closure.

“We all understand the frustration and stress that can be caused by being stuck in traffic for an extended period of time,” Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti said. “While we hope we never have to use it, 511NJConnect is an innovative way to use technology to provide motorists information and status updates during a long-term road closure. Just knowing that there is someone out there monitoring the situation can be extremely reassuring.”

In the event of a sustained stoppage of traffic, the 511NJConnect system, using geo-fencing technology, will identify motorists in the proximity of the incident and send an alert to their hand-held devices. Motorists within the target area will be given the option to register for automatic text messaging or phone updates throughout the event generated by transportation agency staff monitoring the situation. Once the incident is resolved, motorists who registered for the alerts will be automatically unsubscribed from the system and all personal data will be removed.

The system will allow direct communication and updates about the incident to those motorists who are impacted.

511NJConnect is not a substitute for calling 9-1-1

if a motorist has an actual emergency in their vehicle.

Developed in coordination with the New Jersey State Police, the 511NJConnect system will be used for long-term traffic incidents in which motorists become immobilized for an extended period of time on New Jersey’s Interstate highways, the New Jersey Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway, or the Atlantic City Expressway.

NJDOT remains committed to providing safe roadways to New Jersey motorists and in anticipation of the winter season, the Department is implementing this proactive approach to assist and inform motorists in the event of an unforeseen extended closure of a highway.

Motorists should keep a basic emergency kit in their vehicles that includes non-perishable food and water, a cell phone charger, weather-related items such as a blanket, shovel, ice scraper, or rain gear, and any specialized supplies such as baby or pet care items. Visit

Aircraft Maintenance: The Small Parts That Make Your Aircraft Safer

or the owner of a high-usage aircraft, we’ve spotlighted a few points of aircraft maintenance that deserve extra attention to guarantee a safe and comfortable flight.

Grommets

Grommets are often used to protect

wires, tubing and control cables from continuous grating against any sharp edges within the plane. They are vital for preventing against potential smoke and fire hazards within an aircraft’s many electrical connections. Ill-fitting grommets have been the culprits behind cabin fires, lavatory leaks and more threats to crew and passenger well-being, which is why inspection is so essential for in-flight reliability and safety. When properly installed, grommets help ensure an aircraft’s electrical wiring interconnect system (EWIS) is properly bundles to meet airworthiness standards and avoid long-term maintenance issues.

Grommets can also be used as a reinforcement tool around a hole in fabric; usually this means being added onto a plane\’s flaps for extra secureness. Flaps or lift devices, are usually mounted on the wing trailing edges of a fixed-wing aircraft. Flaps are used when additional lift is needed on takeoff.

If during a maintenance inspection any instances of wire chafing, arcing, degradation or other wiring safety concerns appear, any EWIS modifications should be compatible with safety requirements and the existing set standards.

Seals and O-Rings

There’s no arguing when it comes to aircraft maintenance and safety that seals play a vital role in almost every part of your plane.

The forces of attrition are basically the whole story for why your seals and o-rings need regular check-ups.

Attrition is the basic wear and tear on an aircraft during the time it\’s in service for. The five main factors that contribute most heavily to this depreciation include weather, friction, heat, overload and vibration.

Weather and its effects on aircraft can vary widely depending on the local climate (rainy, humid, snowfall, etc.) and each of these conditions will create a different outcome for each aircraft and its parts. Things such as decay, oxidation, moisture, rusting and corrosion are all possibilities and will require cleaning, examination and possible replacement for the continuation of aircraft operation.

Friction is another element of concern for aircraft safety. Friction can’t necessarily be completely avoided since like any machine, an aircraft has hundreds of moving parts that will come into contact with one another from time to time. However, this is where the need for effective sealing and lubrication plays an essential role in reducing the wear on each part. By using lubricated o-rings, higher pressure, temperatures and movement can be attained without compromising metal to metal parts such as in the engine.

It’s important to keep in mind, whether you’re preparing for your annual inspection or progressive, that every piece of your aircraft down to the smallest fuel seal and grommet gasket plays a vital part in giving you the best flight performance and longest lifespan from your aircraft.
