Catholic Bishops Tell House: Health-Care Bill is ‘Unacceptable’ Due to Pro-Abortion Mandates

(CNSNews.com) — The nation’s Catholic bishops have told Congress that they oppose H.R. 3200, America’s Affordable Health Choices Act, as it currently stands, because the health-care reform bill would mandate funding and insurance coverage for abortion.

In an August 11 letter to members of the House of Representatives, Cardinal Justin Rigali, chairman of the pro-life committee of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (U.S.C.C), told lawmakers that health-care reform must \”respect human life and rights of conscience in the context of abortion.\”

Kaiserslautern Earns Little League World Series Berth

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany, Aug. 21, 2009 – The Kaiserslautern Military Community American Little League all-star team begins its quest for the Little League World Series title today in Williamsport, Pa.

The team earned the right to represent Europe in the tournament by beating Ukraine 10-0 in the European title game Aug. 11 in Kutno, Poland.

Bellmawr: Parisi Fun Day A Huge Success

Some 200 people participated in the 6th Annual Nicholas J. Parisi Scholarship Foundation Fun Day recently at the Bellmawr Recreation Centre.

Parisi was an Iraq War veteran of the U.S. Army, and member of Bellmawr Fire Department Station 32.

While rock climbing near his base in Colorado, he fell and died in April of 2004.

Oroho: Corzine Must Ensure That Employment Data is Accurate

Senator Steven Oroho, Republican member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, said he is deeply troubled by published comments questioning whether Corzine administration employment data released yesterday accurately reflects what went on in the New Jersey economy in July. The report said the state had private sector job growth even as the unemployment rate rose to 9.3 percent, the highest level in 32 years. A prominent Rutgers economist quoted by Newhouse News Services said, \”There are some elements of the data that are hard to believe.\” In a Bloomberg article, that same economist is quoted as saying that reports of job growth in the state \”are very surprising results … and let’s hope that they don’t disappear when the data revisions occur.\”

Former exec: Insurers fomenting town hall chaos

A former health insurance executive says the disruptions taking place at lawmakers\’ town halls around the country are the result of stealth efforts by health insurance companies.

Wendell Potter, a former CIGNA vice president, detailed what he said were past covert efforts by the industry. Though he said he does not have specifics for what is occurring now, because he\’s been out of the business for a year, it follows the same pattern.
