I am writing this letter concerning the Health Crisis facing our nation. Over the last few days we have heard on the news about the outbreak of the Swine Flu. Already over 44 cases have been reported in New York City and many states have declared emergencies. In addition there have also has been one death reported in the United States from the outbreak. Also this evening, according to CBS Eyewitness News two people in Vineland, Cumberland County NJ were tested for Swine Flu.

The Gloucester City Planning Board last week denied an application for a minor site plan waiver submitted by Tom Michaels, owner of Yankee Pest Control.

This was Michaels’ third time before the Board to seek approval for plans to refurbish his South Broadway property, which was formerly the Celtic Tavern.

Board Engineer Norman Rodgers, of Consulting Engineer Services, said that Michaels did not submit enough information regarding his plans, adding that a site plan would definitely need to be submitted.

Michaels had first appeared before the Board in 2003, requesting permission to park a mobile storage unit on the property and to make various improvements to the building.

Mt. Ephraim, NJ – April 24, 2009 – Fourth grade Beginning Band students from the Mary Bray Elementary School in Mt. Ephraim presented a concert for the 3^rd and 4^th grades and their parents on April 21^st . The event took place in the Media Center.

There are currently twenty-three students in the Beginning Band, which is directed by Mary Manion. These enthusiastic young musicians have mastered about six different notes at this time. They presented a variety of traditional children’s songs including \”Hot Cross Buns\” and \”French Song.\” The drum section was highlighted as they played \”The Mary Bray Drum Cadence.\” Mrs. Manion accompanied her students on the keyboard. The students took turns announcing each song over the microphone.

In keeping with a special custom, the band played through \”Go Tell Aunt Rhodie\” only to discover that the \”real\” Aunt Rhodie was indeed present in the audience! Mrs. Manion said that Aunt Rhodie makes a surprise visit every year. She winked as she denied reports that her own mother portrays the character. After the show, the students enjoyed refreshments provided by the NJEA Pride Committee. One offering was, of course, hot cross buns

As St. Mary School in Gloucester City celebrates its 150^th anniversary, the Camden Diocese still has plans to move Gloucester Catholic High School – originally owned by the parish and named St. Mary High School.
