Mayor William James (pictured) said today, Tuesday, that the Gloucester City Senior Citizens are the new owners of the Gloucester Heights Fire Hall. An agreement was reached today between all sides said James.

At last Thursday council meeting the public was informed that Gloucester City received a $400,000 grant from the state to build a new Senior Citizens Community Hall. But for some reason the previous administration did nothing with the money, they just let it sit there.

It wasn\’t until the new members of council (James, Brophy, Marchese) took office in January that movement on the project began.

James explained at Thursday meeting that the grant runs out in two months, which means the money would be lost. Time doesn\’t permit for getting proposals and construction so it was decided to look for an alternative, he said.

That alternative was found today.

In 1976 he began his career as a Research Chemist at Campbell\’s Soup Company in Camden, NJ and in 1994 he became Director of Packaging Technology. From 1996-1998, he was Director of Packaging – Asia/Pacific, which took him all over the world. In 2001, he pursued an opportunity with Vlasic Foods as Director of New Products and Process Development. Most recently he was Vice President of Research and Development at Pinnacle Foods in Cherry Hill, NJ. Among his accomplishments were launching new products, and he was a recipient of the DuPont Packaging Award in 1989 and 2001. John enjoyed his summer home in Brigantine. He was an avid Eagles\’ fan. He enjoyed golfing, sailing, camping, and working with his sons on home improvement projects. He also enjoyed trips to New England and St. Michael\’s with his wife. He enjoyed meeting new people from all over the world. He served his country as a National Guardsmen and early in his life he became an Eagle Scout. He was a parishioner at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Parish in Haddon Heights. RUSSELL, ELIZABETH
(nee Christiansen) on March 26th, 2007 was born in Camden, NJ in 1924 to Elizabeth and Olaf Christiansen.
She grew up in Camden and Mount Ephraim, NJ, attending schools there and graduating from Audubon High School. She took her nurses training and received an RN from Philadelphia General Hospital. She was a nurse cadet during World War II.
She worked in psychiatry throughout her nursing career, first at Philadelphia General Hospital, and then at Lakeland and Ancora State Hospital. She attained her BS in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania in 1968.
Betty, as she was nicknamed, then served as Director of Nursing at several nursing homes including Heritage House and Dayton Manor. She retired several times and finally settled into her home and hobbies of gardening, birding, reading, knitting and traveling. She maintained an active lifestyle until she became ill in 2005.
She leaves her husband of 49 years, William and a daughter, Anina as well as many family members and friends.

She was the loving wife of Robert J.
