NJ News Round-Up Friday, March 23 by: DBK reprinted with permission of Blue Jersey The Communications Workers of America, which represents a majority of state workers union, has extended the deadline for voting on its new contract by two weeks because of problems it has encountered with mail-in ballots. If this is a hanging chad thing then I give up. The contract is the same one that has caused so much controversy because of the relationship between Governor Corzine and CWA union president Carla Katz. Governor Corzine (that name comes up a lot in the news around here) appointed Kris Kolluri, who is already the transportation commissioner and chair of NJ Transit, to chair the New Jersey Turnpike and South Jersey Transportation authorities. US Attorney Chris Christie will speak to the Assembly Budget Committee regarding gang violence on April 12. The committee issued the invitation yesterday. I\’ve been hearing some very disturbing things from co-workers about gangs in the high schools. Anyone have anything they\’d like to share on this topic? Three boys aboard a bus to Emily C. Reynolds Middle School in Mercer County took control of the vehicle yesterday when the driver became unconscious. They managed to stop it safely at the side of the road. Nice work guys. That is beyond cool. The bus company has not said whether it intends to offer the boys jobs as drivers, though there seems to be an opening now.
