Bristol, RI, The College of New Jersey wrestling team racked up three more victories on Saturday as the Lions swept their way through the Metropolitan Conference/New England Duals hosted by Rogers Williams University.
TCNJ, ranked 20th in the latest NWCA Brute – Adidas Division III poll, opened with a 30-9 win over the host school and then doubled up 28th-ranked Williams College, 24-12, before closing out the day with a 39-3 victory over Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Those three wins put the Lions at 16-3 on the season and they have won six straight dual meets heading into Sunday\’s match-up at Springfield College.
In the opening dual meet against Roger Williams, senior Ray Sarinelli (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) and junior Al Wonesh (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) each won their match by fall to pace the Lions. Sarinelli needed only 2:27 to win his bout at 133, while Wonesh pinned his opponent at 165 in 4:59.
Against Williams, Wonesh again won by fall, but this time competing at 174 pounds winning in a near identical time of 4:58. Senior Steve Carbone (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) added a second pin for TCNJ as the heavyweight got his opponent flat in 5:45.
The Lions finished out the successful day handling WPI. The Engineers won the first match at 125 pounds, but TCNJ won the final nine with Ryan McCabe (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) winning by fall at 149 pounds in 6:24. Wonesh added victory by technical fall at 165 and Sarinelli had a major decision at 133.
Sarinelli, Wonesh and Carbone each finished the day with perfect 3-0 record, while junior Greg Osgoodby (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick), sophomore Dan DiColo (Budd Lake, NJ/Mt. Olive), freshman Justin Bonitatis (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) and freshman Joe Bozzomo (Middlesex. NJ/Middlesex) each went 2-0.
