HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe today advised motorists to slow down after sundown and before sunrise to reduce their risk of having a close encounter with a white-tailed deer.

Deer collisions are an annual occurrence that will continue through Thanksgiving week and begin to slow down in mid-December. For the sake of public safety, the Game Commission is urging motorists to drive cautiously after dark for the next several months.

Research has repeatedly shown that students who start the day with breakfast perform better at school.

However, millions of American children – one of every six – may not be able to get proper nourishment at home in the morning.

Current economic hardships add to the number of students who are unable to start the school day nourished and ready to learn.

With the help of Action for Healthy Kids, two schools in Gloucester City are taking important steps to help these children start the school day right.

Rowan University Womens Volleyball Game Cancelled

GLASSBORO, NJ – The women\’s volleyball game between Rowan University and Montclair State University has been postponed due to a power outage. A makeup date has not been set.

Shortly after 6 pm on Friday, September 11, 2009 the Mount Ephraim Police received a call for a 2 car motor vehicle accident (MVA) at the corner of Black Horse Pike and Kings Highway. Police arrived and notified the alarm room that they needed the fire department and EMS for a door-pop and one injury.

A group of girls from 10th and Moore are chasing history by making a serious run at the division crown.

The Neumann-Goretti girls’ soccer program never has gotten a taste of the postseason.

Even with its solid 8-3-1 league mark in 2008, the Saints missed the cut for the second spot by a just one point. Overall, the squad from 10th and Moore streets finished with a 10-5-1 record and an 8-3-1 in league action. This fall, the odds have greatly increased with six of the seven Catholic League Blue teams qualifying for the bonus round.

This time, a third-place finish isn’t going to be enough to satisfy these hungry Saints. The target is the division crown, which comes with a first-round bye and a home playoff game.

Passyunk has been around for ages, but a surge in fashionable places is attracting crowds that once clamored to Manayunk or South Street.

East Passyunk Avenue isn’t exactly a hidden gem anymore. Time and time again recently, the strip called The Avenue by those in the know has been in the spotlight.

The attention seems focused on the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered crowd’s migrations to the burgeoning spot, as well as the young and hip who are flooding its shops and restaurants. Long-time residents and businesses seem to be embracing the newcomers and what they have to offer.

Renee Gilinger, East Passyunk Business Improvement District executive director, described The Avenue as up-and-coming while holding on to its strong sense of community — a perfect mesh of the two groups who work and play side-by-side these days.
