Attorney General Tom Corbett (photo) said the agreement, known as an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance (AVC), requires the Humane Society to offer refunds to any consumer who can demonstrate that they purchased a burial plot in the pet cemetery, which was located adjacent to the Humane Society facility on North Ramona Road, in Myerstown. The refund offer must be advertised for the next 30 days on the Humane Society website and also must be published at least once in various Lebanon county newspapers along with the Humane Society newsletter.
\”Consumers purchased burial plots under the belief that their pets\’ remains would be treated with respect and maintained well into the future,\” Corbett said. \”While this agreement cannot recover these beloved pets, it does require compensation for owners along with changes in the operation of the Humane Society which are intended to prevent future problems.\”
