Congress is studying whether to allow gays to serve openly in the military.
Under the so-called Don\’t Ask Don\’t Tell policy put forth in 1993, gays and lesbians have been able to serve as long as they didn\’t reveal their sexual orientation.
Since then, more than 13,000 troops have been discharged under the policy.
