Gloucester City and FMBA Local 51 and 251 Reach Agreement; No Firemen Will Be Laid Off

The two year contract talks between the City of Gloucester City and the union leadership that represents the City’s paid fire department came to an end today, Wednesday. The two sides met in the municipal building at 4:30 pm to cross the t’s and $\"Dolson$ dot the i’s on a three year contract agreement.

The union consented to no salary increase in the years 2009, 2010 and 2011 as well as capping vacation buys back and the elimination of holiday pay. Additionally, sick time buy back will be eliminated for the life of the contract. One of the key provisions in the agreement was the FMBA consent to eliminate longevity and roll it into the base salary.

Stevens Athletics Finishes 2009-10 Ranked 38th in Directors’ Cup Standings

$\"Pine$ HOBOKEN, N.J. (June 29, 2010) – The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) released its final 2009-10 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, and Stevens Institute of Technology came in at No. 38. The ranking matches the best-ever finish in program history, previously achieved after the 2008-09 school year. Stevens totaled 380.5 points, which is an all-time high as total of 311 NCAA Division III Colleges and Universities were ranked with Williams College winning its fifth-straight Directors’ Cup.

Stevens finished second among all technology-based institutions (Massachusetts Institute of Technology – No. 11), and second in the state of New Jersey (The College of New Jersey – No. 8). Ithaca College was the only school from the Empire 8 to finish higher than Stevens, coming in at No. 22.

Highlight new funding and upcoming summit to tackle problem

Philadelphia, June 28, 2010 – Today Mayor Michael A. Nutter, State Senator Anthony $\"Garage$ Hardy Williams, District Attorney R. Seth Williams, State Representative Brendan Boyle and Councilman Curtis Jones announced an enhanced response to prevent witness intimidation. Both at the federal and state levels, legislation is being pursued to increase penalties for intimidation and to prosecute offenders.

\”It is unacceptable that Philadelphians could fear for their safety while stepping up on behalf of the community. In order to reinforce the great gains in public safety made by the Philadelphia Police Department over the past two years, we must have robust and successful prosecution of violent offenders, which includes protecting those who are brave enough to testify,\” said Mayor Nutter. \”My Administration will cooperate with local, state and federal agencies to protect witnesses from intimidation.\”

Mayor Nutter highlighted the dedication of $200,000 in new funding for a witness protection program to be managed by the District Attorney’s Office. The Department of Veterans Affairs National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is on track to record its 10,000th rescue — an achievement likely to occur some time around the Fourth of July. That’s 10,000 Veterans who would not be here today had they not called the VA Lifeline and talked to a trained responder — a responder who deemed it necessary to take immediate action to save the caller’s life.

\”These are people who call us, but they’ve already taken pills, or they have a gun in their hands, or they’re standing on a bridge,\” explained Jan Kemp, VA’s National Suicide Prevention Coordinator. \”These are the calls where we can’t wait. We call emergency services right away.\”

Four Pa. Firefighters Injured in Industrial Blaze | Firehouse.com

MILTON, Pa. — Four firefighters and one fire police officer were taken by ambulance $\"Fire1\"$ yesterday morning from the scene of an industrial building fire at 250 Mahoning St., a blaze that generated clouds of heavy black smoke that could be seen for miles. The nature of the firefighters\’ injuries or conditions were not available at the scene, but they were transported to area hospitals, emergency officials at the scene said. By 11:30 a.m., the smoke was beginning to clear and firefighters appeared to be gaining control over the blaze. Snorkel trucks were being used to spray water from high positions above the roof into the building. Meanwhile, the heavy black smoke appeared to be clearing a bit just before 11:30 a.m. At 11:45 a.m., emergency officials were calling for crews from several area fire departments to monitor air quality levels in the area of the fire. Initial air quality checks did not indicate any major problems, officials at the scene said.

CNBNEWS.net received a press release from the animal rights group SHARK, (Showing Animals Respect and Kindness) of Geneva, Il. announcing a demonstration at the $\"6a00d8341bf7d953ef011571114c5a970c-800wi\"$ Gloucester City’s firework display sponsored by Holt on Saturday. Because of the City’s budget problems Holt donated $15,000 to pay for the display. The SHARK press release says Leo Holt and the Philadelphia gun club he belongs to abuses animals (namely pigeons). Because Holt may be in attendance at the fireworks, SHARK representatives will be on hand to give out flyers and DVD videos.
