WEST LAWN, Pa. – Led by tournament MVP John Brue, Brooklawn Red rallied from an eight-run deficit to defeat Spring City, Pa., 9-8, to win the Senior American Legion Mid-Atlantic Regional championship this afternoon.
Brue, who will be a freshman at St. Joseph’s University this fall, tied the game at 8-8 with a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning. The blast, which went an estimated 350 feet, highlighted a five-run outburst.
The Brookers (55-3) clinched their second straight trip to the World Series when Steve Wilgus beat out an infield single to plate Jon Theckston in the 10th inning.
