On Tuesday, the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) announced the launch of seven Regional Achievement Centers (RACs) that will work with schools that have been identified as Priority and Focus schools.
The designations of Priority and Focus schools are part of the state\’s new accountability system developed after the federal government granted New Jersey a waiver from certain provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act. Priority schools are the lowest-performing schools in the state based on proficiency, growth and graduation rates. Focus schools include schools with high-school graduation rates lower than 75 percent; schools with the largest achievement gaps within subgroups; and schools with low-performing subgroups. A full listing of schools that have been identified as Priority or Focus schools is available online.
