Survey Measuring the Effects of Dog Ownership on Quality of Life

By Ashley Berke

[ Philadelphia, PA] – Does owning a dog improve one’s quality of life? Experts in Penn Vet’s Cardiology Service, in partnership with researchers at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, are currently validating a survey specifically designed to answer this question.

Up to 300 dog owners are needed to answer the Dog Owner Quality of Life Survey, which concentrates on 10 different aspects of everyday life that are important between dogs and their owners, and how they might positively or negatively affect quality of life. Responses will enable researchers to fine-tune the survey before making it more widely available.

Gloucester City Fire Marshall Explains Fire Pit Regulations

CNBNews NOTE: Recently a Gloucester City resident submitted a Letter to the Editor titled Concerned Resident Worried about Fire Pits Causing a Fire. Gloucester City Fire Marshall Patrick Hagan responds to the resident\’s letter in the statement below.

It was brought to my attention that a City resident was wondering about Fire Pit regulations. The City of Gloucester City does have regulations against Fire Pits and as well as the handling of BBQ and LPG (Propane) Grills which falls under the New Jersey Fire Code sections N.J.A.C. 5:70:307 and 308.
  1. If a resident wishes to have an open fire \”bonfire\” they are required to receive a permit from the Bureau of Fire Prevention at the Gloucester Fire Department, which then an Inspection would be conducted.
  2. If a resident wishes to use a \”fire pit\” in an approved container there are restrictions with these too. The distance for this is 15 feet from any structure. NO PERMIT needed because it is in an approved container.
  3. If a resident wishes to use a BBQ or LP-gas grill it shall not be stored or used under the following circumstances:
  1. On any porch, balcony or any other portion of the building
  2. Within any room or space of a building
  3. Within 5 feet of any combustible exterior wall
  4. Within, 5 feet, vertically or horizontally, of an opening in any wall; or
  5. Under any building overhang
EXCEPTION: detached one or two family dwelling
(This exception means: If you live in a Twin, Row, or Apartment Building you must follow this code; however, Single family dwellings are exempt from this.)

If any residents has any questions regarding anything that has to do with Fire Safety they can contact me or Call Fire Headquarters at 856-456-0231 and ask to speak with the Duty Battalion Chief, Lieutenant, we are here 24/7.

Thank you:

Patrick Hagan
