Fire And Police Personnel Respond To Charles W. Lewis Middle School For A Haz-Mat Incident

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP NJ (CNBNews.net)–On Monday, May 4, 2015 at 1:23 PM, Gloucester Township Police units and the Blackwood Fire Department were dispatched to the Charles W Lewis Middle School, after a maintenance worker reported that a battery, located in the boiler room, had exploded.

At the time of the incident, a maintenance worker from the school district was performing routine maintenance on a back-up battery belonging to a generator when the battery exploded. The battery, no larger than a standard car battery, was stored in a maintenance area which is located away from students and faculty.

Dwelling Fire In Gloucester Township Results In Injuries

GTPD Media Release:

On 05/05/2015, at approximately 7:19 PM, the Gloucester Township Police Department responded to the 200 block of Hobart Drive for a dwelling fire with possible entrapment. First arriving officers reported smoke conditions coming from the residence. One neighbor, who attempted to extinguish the fire, was located outside the residence suffering from smoke inhalation. Officers along with EMS personnel attempted to enter the residence to locate any additional victims but were driven back by heavy black smoke. All occupants were accounted for and were out of the residence.
