His career with his favorite football team inspired the 2006 sports drama \”Invincible\” in which actor Mark Wahlberg plays Papale, an underdog who in 1976 tried out for the Eagles at 30 years old. His playing career ended in 1979 after a shoulder injury. Since he was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2001, the Cherry Hill resident has used his fame as a platform to urge others to get screened and spread awareness of the disease.

Squad 32 and Westville Ladder 736 responded to a residence to extinguish a fire that caused by a faulty flex line on a hot water heater. The fire resulted from a loose connection at a gas pipe. No injuries. Luckily the homeowner maintained their storage at a safe clearance or the situation would have turned out different.

The second was for an odor of gas in the house.

Further investigation revealed that the homeowner hired a contractor a week ago to run a new gas line to an appliance. A leak was discovered in the crawl space under the house and was secured by emergency personnel. The work was done without getting a permit.

Please understand the permitting process is in place to ensure the work is done to code and is safe. This incident was averted before a tragedy occurred. If you are getting work done or thinking of having work done and are not sure if a permit is required please contact the Borough\’s Construction Office at 856-933-1286.

Also on June 3, the Bellmawr Fire Department Squad 32 responded to an auto fire on Route 76 NB just past the Browning Road overpass. This was the department\’s 15th run of the month.
