For 50 years, community health centers have provided care to millions of residents, offering patient-focused, coordinated services to families and individuals in need of preventative and primary care.

As part of National Health Center Week, a total of 63 events are planned across New Jersey this week to honor the extraordinary work of these centers. A kickoff event is scheduled on Monday, August 10 at Ocean Health Initiatives in Lakewood from 12 to 3 p.m. Acting New Jersey Health Commissioner Cathleen Bennett will attend, along with members of the New Jersey Primary Care Association and federal and local officials. The theme for this year\’s celebration is America\’s Health Centers: Celebrating Our Legacy, Shaping Our Future.

SHELBY N.C. (AUGUST 10, 2015)–Legion Baseball fans are in for an exciting 2015 American Legion World Series (ALWS) as several of the eight teams en route to Shelby, N.C., include past champions, runners-up and squads with multiple Series appearances. 

The eight American Legion Baseball teams won their divisions\’ regional tournaments and are now competing for the 2015 Legion World Series championship title are:

 FERGUSON MO–On Sunday, August 9, 2015, at approximately 11:10 PM, while assisting the Ferguson Police Department in a protest detail on West Florissant Avenue, several gunshots began being fired by at least two unknown persons in the vicinity of the protests, specifically the 9200 block of West Florissant. 

Several reports on social media have stated there had been two shootings on West Florissant. The second incident was not a shooting, and happened prior to the shots being fired. In this separate incident, a member of the local St. Louis Media was assaulted and robbed by several unknown persons on a nearby parking lot. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. The Ferguson Police Department is conducting the investigation into the robbery.

Holmdel Township, N.J. – The New Jersey State Police have arrested and charged Quran Powell, 27, of Holmdel, N.J., for shooting two men in the parking lot of the PNC Bank Arts Center after a concert.

On Monday, August 3, at 11:14 p.m., troopers responded to a shooting in parking lot 4 of the PNC Arts Center. The two male victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were subsequently flown to a local hospital for treatment. Both individuals were last listed in critical but stable condition.

Through various investigative means, detectives from the New Jersey State Police Troop \”D\” Criminal Investigations Office, Major Crimes Unit, and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office were able to identify Quran Powell as the suspect. On Wednesday, August 5, State Police and Monmouth County detectives, along with the New Jersey State Police T.E.A.M.S Unit, executed a search warrant for Powell\’s home.
