The return of larger, 2-year old trout for the annual fall trout stocking was welcomed by anglers who enjoyed being outdoors amid the colorful fall foliage.
Nearly 21,000 Rainbow Trout averaging 14.6\” were stocked in 16 streams and 15 ponds across the state over a two-week period. In addition to those fish, 745 breeders averaging 21.1\”, awaited anglers like Bob Joiner, right, whose fishing buddy Paul Zrinko snapped the photo of Bob with a beautiful South Branch rainbow.
More trout will be stocked just prior to Thanksgiving thanks to the NJDEP\’s Division of Fish and Wildlife\’s Winter Trout Stocking Program. On November 23 and 24 approximately 5,000 two-year old Rainbow Trout, averaging 14-18 inches, will be stocked in 24 designated ponds and lakes throughout the state, providing more excitement for the holiday weekend and into the spring.
