In January 2011 the city of Redlands, California, 60 miles east of Los Angeles, was experiencing budget cuts. City management had to decrease personnel levels, which led to a reduction in city services. The Redlands Police Department’s (RPD) sworn ranks dropped by 22.4 percent, from 98 officers to 76. Management prohibited overtime unless a violent crime occurred that resulted in death or severe bodily injury.[1]

Traditionally, RPD administrators have allocated the necessary resources to tackle crime trends. In the last 18 years, the city experienced 50 homicides; police solved 49.[2] Innovation and technology allowed the department to work with the community in an ongoing effort to reduce crime.

Judge Hogan has ruled against the environmental groups’ motion to intervene in the Exxon settlement case. We filed a motion to intervene for the purpose of appealing the Judge’s decision in in the settlement. We want to show that this settlement is wrong and Exxon should be responsible for the environmental damages impacted. We also believe we have right to intervene under the Environmental Rights Act and Judge Hogan should not have denied us that right. We are going to appeal this settlement and the Judge’s decision, as well as his denying our ability to intervene. The environmental groups who filed a motion to intervene in the case released the following statements:

John W. Dobleman, One of the Original Founders of the Gloucester City Cyclone Girls Softball Team

William E. Cleary Sr. | CNBNewsnet

\"DoblemanJohn\"John W. Dobleman (photo) died suddenly on October 8, 2015, at the age of 48. A life long resident of Gloucester City, NJ, \”Square Head\”, as he was known, was one of the original founders of the Gloucester Cyclones, a traveling softball team for young girls. Asked how he got his nickname, his older brother Ziggy said, \”When I first saw him, after he was born, all I could see was his head sticking out of the blanket. I said he had a ‘Square Head’. The nickname stayed with him for the rest of his life.\”

A graduate of Gloucester City High School, Class of ’85, John was a a good softball player and played for several men teams in the area when he was younger.

\”Good byes are never easy,\” said his friend Richard Dolson. \” Especially when your friend is 48. John inspired me 15 years ago to take coaching softball to another level. To leave a player with more knowledge of the game then we found them with. We , together with Ziggy and too many others to name, built a local softball empire. It was his vision. He gave his all. His on field antics were remembered by all. From his running flying splits to motivating the girls by eating a caterpillar! My favorite was his loud, did I say LOUD, motivational chants. My favorite was \”Do we want tuna fish or do we want lobster!\’ The kids loved him, the umpires loved him! He was so full of life when he had orange dirt under his shoes. So many kids got their start in softball playing for John Dobleman.\”

Mr. Dobleman is survived by his children, Samantha, Joshua and Ashlynn Dobleman; grandchildren, Mason and Chase; his siblings, William (Mary Ann), Charles \”Ziggy\” (Kathy), Linda Zearfoss, Daniel (Bonnie) Dobleman; goddaughter, Jenna and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth Dobleman and his brother, James.
