CNB HUNTING/FISHING NEWS:
MARYLAND (September 26, 2014)–Two Pennsylvania men were charged today with illegal deer hunting on state land in Washington County, the Maryland Natural Resources Police reported.
Michael Allen Wood, 52, of Fort Loudon, and Paul Eugene Carmack, 54, of Greencastle, were charged with hunting deer with the aid of bait at Indian Springs Wildlife Management Area.
Acting on a tip, an officer yesterday found tree stands and ground blinds near piles of apples, shelled corn and three mineral blocks—all considered means of baiting wildlife. When the officer returned to the site this morning, he found Wood hunting with a crossbow from a ground blind and Carmack hunting from a tree stand with a crossbow.
In addition to the baiting charge, the hunters were issued warnings for having permanent tree stands and blinds in a Wildlife Management Area.
The two men are scheduled to appear in Washington District County on Dec. 2. If found guilty, each hunter faces a maximum fine of $1,500.
