An international fugitive wanted for a shooting that killed one man and injured another in Camden has been apprehended overseas, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, U.S. Marshal Nicholas Ricigliano (District of New Jersey), and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez. Felix De La Cruz-Arias, 30, of Brooklyn, New York was taken into custody on January 30, 2026, in Barcelona, Spain by the Spanish National Police in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Service – Office of International Operations and the U.S. Department of Justice – Office of International Affairs. De La Cruz-Arias was charged on April 4, 2025, with first-degree Murder in the March 2025 fatal shooting on Josue Hiraldo-Peralta, 32, of Camden. He was also charged with first-degree Attempted Murder for shooting a second man who survived.
On March 12, 2025, at approximately 10:29 p.m., officers from the Camden County PolicenDepartment responded to a ShotSpotter activation for gunfire in the area of the 300 block of Morse Street in Camden. Upon arrival, officers located Hiraldo-Peralta suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside on the ground. Officers then located a second victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside a nearby residence. The victims were transported to Cooper University Hospital for treatment. Hiraldo-Peralta was pronounced deceased at approximately 11:05 p.m.
Detectives from the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office (CCPO) Homicide Unit and Camden County Police Department investigated the case collaboratively and determined De La CruzArias was the individual responsible for the shooting. During the fugitive investigation, CCPO Senior Detective Stephen Bezich, a task force officer with the U.S. Marshal Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force – Camden Division, uncovered information that revealed the defendant’s whereabouts in Spain. De La Cruz-Arias is being held in a correctional facility in Spain, pending extradition to the United States.
“De La Cruz-Arias’s arrest in Spain highlights the strength of international law enforcement cooperation,” said Nicholas Ricigliano, U.S. Marshal for the District of New Jersey. “The Spanish National Police are to be commended for tenaciously pursuing this fugitive while working hand in hand with the U.S. Marshals Service. Through strong international partnerships, our ability to locate and apprehend fugitives beyond our borders is unmatched. Similar global collaboration led to the arrests of two Camden County fugitives last year in Mexico and Ukraine. These cases underscore that attempts to evade justice across international lines are rarely successful.” “This arrest sends a clear message that violence in our community will be pursued wherever it leads, even across international borders,” said Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay. “We are grateful to our law enforcement partners and remain focused on justice for the victims and their families.”
