Two bald eagles that last year nested in Philadelphia – the first in at least 200 years, according to state game officials – have returned. And while last year no young survived, this year the pair hatched a tiny eaglet that grew from fluff to feathers and learned to shred a fish.
Finally, in late June, it left the nest to begin its life in the wider world.
A year after eagles were removed from the federal endangered-species list, their numbers continue to grow.
