GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ (Cleary’s Notebook News)January 9,2026)–Today I had the unpleasant experience of being scammed — or at least, almost being scammed.

A man who called himself Bryant, phoned my cell to warn me that my TD Bank credit card had supposedly been used. He asked whether I had been in Chicago recently and if I had charged $630 at a Best Buy there.

That should have been the first warning sign.

New Hope and Lambertville Team Up for 2nd Annual Restaurant Week

New Hope, PA and Lambertville, NJ – Two of the most celebrated dining scenes in the greater Philadelphia and South Jersey region are firing up one of the most delicious collaborations of the winter months. The Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Lambertville Chamber of Commerce kick-off 2026 with the year’s first official restaurant week. The 2nd Annual New Hope and Lambertville Restaurant Week returns from January 12 through January 25, 2026. More than two dozen acclaimed restaurants from both sides of the Delaware River will offer specially priced prix fixe three-course lunch and/or dinner menus ranging from $25 to $55 each, providing diners with an exceptional culinary experience in these charming river towns.

Dishes will range from local favorites to exclusive off-menu dishes. Pennsylvania restaurants include  Birds Nest Bar & Grille, Black Bass Hotel, GreenHouse New Hope, Ferry + Main Restaurant at the Logan Inn, Golden Pheasant Inn, Italian Cucina, Martine’s Riverhouse, Nektar Wine Bar, OldeStone Steakhouse, River House at Odette’s, The Ferry Market and V-Spot Vegan Food Restaurant, plus others to be announced.  Clusters Handcrafted Popcorn will also offer specials for restaurant week diners visiting New Hope. New Jersey restaurants include  Broadmoor Osteria Italiana, El Tule, Lambertville Station Restaurant and Inn, Metá Café, Nomad Pizza Lambertville, Pru Thai, The Salt House, The Starving Artists Cafe and Under The Moon, plus others to be announced. Gwendolyn Gail Bear-Raub, 82, Formerly of Allentown, PA

Gwendolyn Gail Bear-Raub (nee Hoffman) passed away on December 31, 2025 at the age of 82.  Formerly of Allentown, PA, Gwen retired as the Assistant Vice President of Training for Hess’s Department Store.

Loving mother of Stacey Inglis of Wilmington, DE.  Devoted grandmother of Aynsley Inglis, also of Wilmington, DE.  Daughter of the late Clarence and June Hoffman (nee Scharadin).  Sister of Malcolm (Sherri) Hoffman, Bonita (Karl) Santa, Jacqueline (Joseph) Miller and the late Margaret “Peggy” Kies.  She is also survived by nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the FOSTER-WARNE FUNERAL HOME, 820 Haddon Ave., Collingswood, NJ.  Funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM.  Interment private.

Visit New Hope Announces Holiday Parade and Complimentary Parking for Holidays

Frank S. Yurick, Sr., 86, of South Philadelphia

On October 1, 2025, at the age of 86. Of South Philadelphia. Loving and devoted husband of 63 years to Barbara Ann Yurick (nee Schaffer). Beloved father of the late Frank S. Yurick, Jr., George J. Yurick (Lizel), Bruce E. Yurick (Terri), Brenda Lucas and Loretta Ash (Ken). Cherished grandfather of Gregory, Jonathan, Kristen, Kenneth, Jr., Arabelle, Jaiden, Evan, Braden, Gavin and Lillian and great-grandfather of Kira, Jonathan, Abigail and Kayleigh.

Frank was predeceased by his parents, George J. Yurick and Eveline Yurick (nee Veirick), as well as his siblings, George Yurick, Edward Yurick, Gilbert Yurick, Eveline Benson and Charles Yurick. 

Frank was born and raised in South Philly and was a graduate of Bok Technical School. He was a life member of Cement Masons Local Union 592 in Philadelphia. Frank was a deacon and Sunday school teacher for over 30 years at his church. 

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Tuesday morning, October 7th from 9 to 10 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, 117 Nicholson Road, West Collingswood Hts., NJ 08059. Funeral Services will be celebrated at 10 AM in the church. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Abington Twp, PA.

Statewide archery season starts Saturday

Pennsylvania’s statewide deer archery season opens this Saturday, October 4 and runs through November 21 — including seven of the approved Sundays for the 2025-26 season — then reopens from December 26-January 19. Hunters are reminded to tag and report their harvest within 10 days by phone, by mail, or online.
