\’Emailgate\’:The Memos Gloucester City Officials Didn\’t Want You To See

By Bill Cleary

On Friday, June 6th Gloucester City Councilman Nick Marchese (Finance Chairman) via an E-mail asked City Administrator/City Clerk Paul Kain if he completed his new assessment and vision of the former Coast Guard Base property. Members of Council along with Kain met a week before to discuss the Freedom Pier plans. Kain supposedly said he didn\’t want to move ahead with the project until he had a chance to study the project further.

Freedom Pier was first proposed by the Kilcourse Administration two years ago in 2006.Kain was also the City Administrator back then. It calls for the construction of 29 townhouses at the former coast guard base on King Street at the Delaware River.

Early Saturday morning, (12:28 AM) June 7th, Kain responded by Email to Marchese in this reporter\’s view in an abrupt, rude memo. Copies of that Email were forwarded to all council members. Along with deputy clerk Kathy Jentsch, Gina Dunphy UEZ office, Police Chief William Crothers, Frank Robertson and Bowie Johnson at the public works department.

Councilman Marchese Response To ‘Emailgate’

August 30, 2008

To Bill (Cleary):

In regards to your request for a response about an email sent to me by Paul Kain back in June of this year. First of all I\’d like to say that Paul and I have had prior communications where we may have had differences of opinion.

We also have agreed on many issues. After reading the response from the Mayor to Paul Kain, I felt as though I did not need to reply to Paul\’s e-mail. In any team situation there can be difference of opinion.

I hold no animosity towards Paul Kain. I have explained to Paul in the past that this is not personal. We are driven to accomplish the City\’s goals by trying to do what is best for our citizens and our community in a timely fashion. That’s not always the easiest thing to do in government, but we are optimistic.

In my email to Paul I was requesting information regarding his version for the plans of the new housing project on the Coast Guard site. I was obviously a little shocked and concerned by Paul\’s response to my request. I did not appreciate his sarcasm or disrespect towards me and the fact that he copied this email to all of the City\’s department heads, and other City employees. This I still do not understand, but this is something we are trying to work past for the good of the City.

My main concern is moving forward with these projects and not waiting for more studies to be completed.

To date we have still not received what was requested from Mr. Kain. The housing project is moving forward and will hopefully begin construction in the Spring of 2009.

Gloucester City Councilman Nick Marchese

Gloucester City: County Mosquitoes Spray Non Toxic Pesticide

Dear Bill and Residents of Riverview Heights,

I am writing this letter in response to questions I received two weeks ago regarding the spraying of pesticide by the Camden County Mosquito Commission in the Riverview Heights section of Gloucester City.

As a resident of the area where the event occurred I contacted the Agency and spoke to the supervisor Arthur Jamieson. He informed me that they had a complaint from resident/s of a high density of mosquitoes. He said that when they receive complaints and can determine a high level of mosquitoes they come out to the neighborhood in question during the evening and spray non toxic pesticide.

I mentioned to him that the fog from the pesticide created a bad smell and made it difficult for breathing. He assured me again that the pesticide they spray are Government approved and are not toxic. Before

Brooklawn: Tummy Tee\’s 2008 Wiffleball Champs

See Photo Album

After a 10 hour marathon, Brooklawn Wiffleball crowned the Tummy Tee\’s team of Colin Mac Adams (TOURNEY\’S MVP), Joe Collins, Jerry Collins, Phil Collins and Jim Dobbins as the team with a year\’s worth of bragging rights.

T ummy Tee\’s battled out of the losers bracket beating a Gaetano\’s team of Brett Darrow, Bud Blackiston, Jack Don and Brandon Blackiston in the semi-finals 2 – 0 on a 2 run homer from Colin Mac Adams in the 5th inning. Following the upset of Gaetano\’s, Tummy Tee\’s headed into the Championship game unbeaten Jeep Mac Adams team.

The Jeep Mac Adams team made up of castoffs (Shane Mac Adams, Colin\’s Mac Adams Brother, Steve Mac Adams Colin\’s cousin, Mark Ainsley, Chris Hughes) from the Colin Mac Adams team entered the Championship game as the tourney\’s lone unbeaten team.

After a dispute about which team would be considered the home team, the two battled to a deadlock until the 3rd inning when Jeep Mac Adams took a 2 -0 lead. This lead was quickly erased in the 4th when Tummy Tee\’s plated 4 runs on a mountain of hits and walks. Tummy\’s added 2 more in the 6th inning on a MVP Colin Mac Adams 2 run homer which gave the Tummy Tee\’s a lead that enabled Tummy\’s to hold on for a 6 – 4 championship win. Click link
