TRENTON – Northern New Jersey\’s Ramapo Mountain State Forest reopened today following a two-week closure for monitoring of unusual black bear activity in the area.
The decision to reopen the 4,200-acre state forest bordering Passaic and Bergen counties was made as a result of an assessment of Division of Fish and Wildlife biologists who have been monitoring traps set near trails where multiple encounters between one or more potentially aggressive bears occurred in recent weeks.

WOODBURY NJ (October 20, 2015)Efrain Burgos (DOB 10/21/59), of Glassboro NJ pleaded guilty Monday (10/19) to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, acknowledging he improperly touched an 11 year old girl in Glassboro while having legal responsibility for her on 4/23/14.
As part of a negotiated plea, Assistant Gloucester County Prosecutor Alec Gutierrez will recommend that Burgos be sentenced to six years on New Jersey state prison, He will be subject to the reporting and restriction requirements of Megan’s Law for sex offenders and be under parole supervision for at least 15 years after release from incarceration.
Superior Court Judge Kevin T. Smith accepted Burgos’ plea and deferred sentencing pending an evaluation of the defendant at the state Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center, a facility for sex offenders at Avenel NJ, where defendants found to be compulsive and repetitive offenders may serve their sentences.
Burgos remains incarcerated in default of $100,000 bail. He was arrested 5/21/14.

According to statistics collected by the FBI, 96 law enforcement officers were killed in line-of-duty incidents in 2014. Of these, 51 law enforcement officers died as a result of felonious acts, and 45 officers died in accidents. In addition, 48,315 officers were victims of line-of-duty assaults.
