Pitman, NJ… Three athletes from The College of New Jersey were recognized by the New Jersey Athletic Conference for their exceptional play during the opening week of the season.
Junior Annie McCarthy (Wall, NJ/Wall), a member of the Lions women’s soccer team was named Defensive Player of the Week. She led TCNJ to three consecutive shutout victories over Drew University (1-0), Bridgewater College 7-0, and the University of La Verne (4-0). McCarthy and her teammates held their opponents to just five shots in three games.
Sophomore Karisse Bendijo (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ/Egg Harbor) posted a winning score of 6-0, 6-1 in first singles competition in a 9-0 win over conference foe Rutgers University-Newark. She also chalked up a victory at first doubles and was named NJAC Player of the Week.
Sophomore Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) earned Rookie of the Week honors contributing to three wins for TCNJ’s field hockey squad. Notos tallied four points in the first three games of her field hockey career. A member of the Lions lacrosse team, Notos decided to play field hockey this year and also placed her stamp on the sport this fall.
